Where did you get the M1.2 from? The manufacturer claims 0.92
That is for the Civilian version, the Military Version was spoken about some time ago where they stated that it would be capable of M1.2 and 38K feet, I have it somewhere and will have to dig for it real deep.

It’s more like a royal hotel sitting there in port, since she was bought, she’s only left port twice, there is no permenant crew for her and the Royal room on her takes up a rather disproportionate size of the main living deck. It really is a joke and a bad one at that!

Mate the thing is supposed to be able to do Mach 1.2 so catching renegade airliners should be no problem even with the armourment on board!

Sorry to bring this old topic back to life guys but here is my two cents worth (as if you needed them).
The RN will not sell any of these carriers as they are full of Asbestos and we all know the harm that can do. I anticipate that should these ships finally retire, they will be used in some sort of Livex where all three services will get the chance to test their wepons and their effectiveness in the modern war environment (first should logically be for the RN; Torpedo strike from subs, next would be the RAF for ASM missile testing, and the final one for the army with SpecOps or something creative like that).
No country is interested in buying any of these old carriers as buying them would mean that they will have only a helo carrier or have to fork out huge amounts of cash for Harriers and buying the Licence to have them (and we know how the US government is on that topic lately). Besides, very few countries could actually afford these carriers even after their use in the RN, their support costs would be enormous!
As for the Apaches, I found this on the BBC News site:

If you ask me, the poms have the right idea in making these machines sea capable, I can’t understand why the US never did it :confused: Oh and Yes the British are the only ones with these machines at sea, all the other countries that have the Apache took the stock standard version from the US (this is another reason why Australia didn’t buy these things for our Army).
Ed: mate what the guy was talking about is infact quite true, MOST RN ships should be capable of taking an Apache in their hanger, but bare in mind that this is instead of the Merlin. Ships with small hangers for just a lynx are not capable of taking the Mk-1’s but this doesn’t matter as they will be retiring those soon enough (These include the Type 42’s and the Type 22’s).
wilhelm: Indeed it was and this was mainly to cater for the expected Malaysian and Australian orders for which both had specified a “Sea Deployment” capability. Our order went to the Tiger and the Malaysians ran out of money, thus killing that off, but I still think Denel have it there should anyone be serious about this machine and that includes the SADF/N who are starting to replace everything in their services (with good reason) and also expand on their capabilities- wouldn’t be too suprised if the SADF/N finds itself with a Helo carrier some time around 2020!
Harry: mate the Thai’s would be better off selling the Carrier they have as it has done no good and is a huge money pit for them. I mean they bought it with the intention of flying the old Harriers off it, it has only made one trip with the EAV-8’s on board before a lack of spares forced them to be grounded. There is also a lack of Pilots for them with the latest figure standing at only three and only one of those pilots is a full timer on the Harrier (the other two keep their Harrier quals by flying one of the two servicable harriers every month but have turned to flying RTAF F-16’s on a full time basis with 301 Sqdn, source- Thai navy website, thai language version).

Australia aren’t looking for any LPH’s, we’re upgrading from LPH to LHD
HMAS Manoora and HMAS Kanimbla don’t even come near 9000T displacement and they ships we are looking at are over 20000T (Mistral is 22000T and SPS is 27000T).
Yes the Mistral design is one in contention and ARMARIS have teamed up with Tenix for this deal (countering Navantia and ADI), if Tenix wins, the ships will be built in Williamtown and if ADI win, the ships will be built at Newcastle.
Guess it seems to be the concensus that the NH-90 in any and all versions is “The Way Forward” as GWB like to put things these days. I too would take it for the Support and Combat element of the Naval helo force, but I’d choose the A-109LUH as my training helo, simply because it has a small offencive role capability as well as some capacity as a support helo, thus I’d refelcet my tarining sylabus along the lines of the following:
Promotion from basic flight school to Helo Training School (A-109’s), the prospective pilots would then spend two years there:
6 months learning about helo ops at sea (theory)
6 months learning to fly helos culminating with six weeks at sea training.
6 months flying in a support role and finally
6 months learning ASW/ASuW tactics
Graduation from the training school would see the pilot then branch out to either “Support School” (A55 and Trash hauling) or Combat School (Jocks with rocks) where they learn more advanced tactics in their chosen fields. With this sort of schooling, you are ensuring that should the unthinkable happen and a helo does go down from the combat section, then a Support section crew is able to cover the job (albeit not as well- but some coverage is better than none at all right?).
Support school would also cover adventurous missions such as SAR, CSAR and Black Ops missions, so it’s not all bad for that section.

But when it comes to talking about the NH-90’s, I would take the MRH-90 (Aussie/ New Zealand) version. These machines are fully marinised and capable of deploying with everything the NH-90TTH and NH-90NFH have to offer. We have basically done the same thing with these machines as we did with the Seahawks (reference to the RAWS), turned them into Hybrid machines that cover both jobs.
This gives me an idea about another thread, stay tuned!!!
Personally, I wish our respect of Militaries would have less platforms! As the resources saved could be better used elsewhere…………..
All due respect my dear friend but down here we have AIR 9000, a requirment to cut down on the number of airframes being used by the Army and Navy (our Air Force doesn’t have helo’s since they were all transfered to the Army in the mid 90’s)
The aim of AIR 9000 was to select a common replacement for both services with just one type of helo, the winner the MRH-90 version of the NH-90

We have ordered 46 of these which are to replace the Army’s Black Hawks and Navy’s Seakings
The first 12 were bought some time ago and then a series of major accidents with these two types force the government to allow 34 more to be ordered. Eurocopter has it’s facility in Brisbane where our machines are being built (as are those for the Royal New Zealand Air Force- still can’t believe that they bought so few).
The eventual types to be replaced by the MRH-90 are as follows:
While some of these machines have some time left on their clocks, the Blackhawks and Seakings are way past their replacement time (our BH’s have been used so extencivly that they are almost time expired and it was felt that rather than zero hour them again- we’d replace them with a better machine)
The Joke that has turned out to be the Seasprites has prompted questions of the NFH-90 version being bought sooner and these jokes being dismissed before even deploying on their first operational mission- mind you, that threat still stands!
Yes we still have some old Huey’s in service, you’d be silly to take them all out as soon as you get a Blackhawk. The bulk of our UH-1 fleet is based over seas in places like Bouganville- PNG and other regional hot spots (The Solomons).
Sorry I’ve done it again, typed up a huge long reply that sounds like me rambling on.
I can confirm that IAI have indeed invested in the Javelin, they are also supplying the cockpit componants for the military models (these being compatible with the Super Bug, Falcons, Lightnings, Typhoons and Rafaels.
As i have said, they plan to arm it with an internal gun that runs down the side3 of the cockpit, a missile under each wing and a centerlin hard point that is fully plumbed. (I have had a subscription to the ATG news letters for some time now)
Considering the origins of this design… we have no idea what if any ordnance could be hung on the wings.
Smae on you ELP, have you already forgotten the mighty F-104? It’s only been out of service now for a year and people are already forgetting the manned missile 🙁 Look at those wings and then look at the huge tanks they put on them, surely a similar thing could happen herewith the Javelin? Or how abouyt arming it with two ASRAAM’s under the wings, two Stingers on the wing tips and the gun internally with a drop tank under the belly?
I would like to know the source of the information as to the MN buying these planes as the last I heard was that the customer had requested the confidentiallity clause in the contract, don’t get me wrong, it’s a great move by them in buying these planes. Can you imagine a carrier version 😀
If you saw the places where we need to land these beasts, you’d understand why we selected them over anything else!
Sure the Galaxy and Condor are great planes and can carry heaps, but the rough field capability is not that good. Besides, IIRC there was some concern about the M-1A-1’s fitting in these two planes (can’t quite figure out what it would have been though).

No Prob Scoot my old friend, allow me to clarrify that last point for you.
The S-70B-2’s can do everything under the RAWS umbrella, as I said, it is a Role Adaptive Weapons System, it can launch Torps at subs and also Penguins at Targets (very few people remember that our Seahawks can fire the Penguin missile- this was retro fitted after the Hellenic Navy had it fitted to their Agean Hawks, we always wanted our machines fitted with an ASuM but weren’t sure which one to get).
With the Seasprites the intention was to have them firing Penguins as the OPV’s were not to be fitted with any form of SSM. We didn’t need them firing off tin fish since the OPVs were to have two Mk-10 Triple tubes fitted under the flight deck. So to extend the hitting range of the OPV’s the SH-2G’s were to have the Penguins fired from over the horizon.
Basically we had the SH-2G’s covering the capability gaps in the OPV’s which are now a memory.
The Story changes a bit when you look into the SH-2G and the Anzac combo, the Anzacs could do everything and therefore the helo’s were only to provide targetting info for the ship and take in troops when boarding vessels. In other words, they were to be used as a Utility Helo.
