I do indeed guys and he’s been keeping me updated, I have kept quiet about it because I wanted to see where the whole thing was going myself, but yes indeed this is actually happening. My freind has gone out of computer range for 15 days, but will be back and give me full updates, which I will happily pass on.

That is correct, apparently the AdM are looking at getting models similar to those in Vietnamese service. In his last email, my friend told me that AdM admirals and Rosboronexport officials were in conferance reguarding price and equipment. Also the Admirals were appealing with the Republic’s Congress to get the money for the planes.
Any other sources also saying this? Is it actually a done deal?
National News papers are reporting it also, the deal isn’t done yet but they are just hammering out the details (so you may as well say that it is).
I sincerely doubt that the Mexican Navy is getting new built Flankers and the MAF has to make due with old F-5’s!
I have brought this question up myself with my friend. According to him the FAM are a different subject but they are trying to buy some more F-5’s off the second hand market as a temporary measure to finding new planes for the service. The recent strain on ties between the US and Mexico is making the Mexicans look elsewhere for defence needs. I wouldn’t be suprised if the FAM end up with French or Chinese equipment in service but you can honestly rule out anything American in the next 20 years.

According to my friend the planes will be based somewhere in the Yucatan, my guess would be BAN Campeche, or even BAN Chetumal. One faces the Gulf of Mexico, the other faces out into the Atlantic.
And the reason they want the planes is to fend off intruders to their oil fields, though I too can’t understand why they want a pure fighter and not a multi-roled a/c such as the Su-30.
