I know these are conseptual designs and that the end result is far different to what is pictured above, what I would like to talk about id the design plausability that was in those pics. Could the lift on the aft corner be useful?

I don’t think I like where the second lift is, IMHO it would interfere with deck movments both above and below.

Britchy: Mate I think you misunderstand mate, this is the Royal Australian Navy not the Royal Navy. Sorry for the confusion mate.

Down here we don’t have the EH-101’s but the MRH-90’s are a good bet and this should see the RAN FAA with replacments of this type of helo sooner than the goverwas planing. With just five of these aircraft left you really must wonder how much use they can be now, especially when the fleet is mostly down due to maintanence problems.

MRH-90’s with FADEC do seem to make more sence in terms of operational service.

Don’t be silly GD, The Fish would sink Collins rather than it’s assigned target.

Don’t know if anyone has heard by the Collins class are getting new firing control computers. The first has just gone in to get it and other updates and should rejoin the fleet in about 16 months time. All the original subs are having their problems fixed at the same time and the Fast track subs will just have the computers replaced and should only take half the time.

The list of countries who have gripes against the JSF program is as long as your arm guys. Australia has had it’s fair share of the winge. But as was said up top there, the program was started under Clinton who believed in a world where we can solve problems together. Bush believes he can solve problems by controlling them (I won’t spark a pollitical debate here but can anyone say “Democraticly Elected Dictatorship”)?

Yes the US has the right to protect their interests but if you want to hold back on something in a partnership, then the thing is doomed as all the players will desert.

JB: mate the pollies down in Canberra have has a hard enough time trying to tell the public that the problems of the Collins Calss and the SH-2G(A)’s are justifying the expences being spent on them now to fix the problems (the helo’s themselves are six years late for service but should be fully operational this year- they hope).

The An-124 was a bit of a risk and I really am not suprised by the decission to buy the Globe masters, after all, like I said they are the only one of the contenders for the job still in production!

I am getting conflicting reports as to the serviceability of Uruaguay’s four trackers. In anycase would they also be interested in the Vikings?

I have been constantly saying that the JSF has been a bit too ambitious in the fact that thetre are too many people wanting things from the program that can’t get delivered. One day a “United Earth Defence” might have a common fighter all over the globe, but today, that is a dream, we have no hope on earth of making everyone happy with one product simply because we all want to do different things and protect jobs in out countries. When money fails to be important to humanity and personal greed is finally over riden as our last primal instinct, we will see that everyone on this planet will have equal share of everything.

Till that day, stick ’em up I want all your cash because I want to buy a farm on Fiji have a sheep and a goat and breed horses, Where’s Chrissy? Cat, Cat, go get Chrissy and tell her Rimmer is coming.

Before you say anything simplistically foolish as “it’s all politics” … I’d suggest you look at MMH/FH (maintenance man hour per flight hour) and aircraft commission rates. Not to mention “life cycle costs”, hourly cost figures, and of course spares, heavy maintenance and training availability

I haven’t seen the figures….but I’m sure the Aussies have and those facts helped them to make a decision.

In any case, the An-124 is a Ukranian ,plane now, as Antonov is state owned by the Ukranian government.
