Does anyone have a cut away of the Oosumi class and the San Class of the Italian Navy?
Ok guys, guys you aren’t in a playing mood lately, I’ll come back later on.
For now here are the answers to this one:
1. KNS Nyayo (Kenya- Patrol corvette)
2. SAS Galashewe (South Africa- Patrol Corvette)
3. HSwMS Belos (Sweden-Sub Rescue Ship)
4. PLANS Zijinshan (China- Landing Ship Tank)
5. RNS Regele Ferdinand (Romania- Frigate)
Ahhh yes now I remember, like our Adelaide Class are different to the OHP’s. IIRC your Santa Maria’s were wider in the beam where as ours were longer to take the Seahawks (a move later retro-fitted to the American ships).
Given that the BPE(mod) and the SPS are shortlisted, wouldn’t you agree that the SPS is the better option since we could walk away with the ship already suited for our use (especially since we are looking at putting the F-35B’s on them).
The BPE would require mods that would basically make it a new ship and there fore a riskier proposal and risk assesment is one of the ADF’s key factors.
Xan: Mate if it’s not called the ADS anymore, what is it called? Have they decided on a class name or something?
Does the Spanish navy ever consider the name “Santa Maria” as a usfull name? That name has a very long and proud history behind it.
Well I know there is a Mk-44 down at the Technical school at HMAS Cerberus, it’s been cut open like a model so that you can see how it works, but shouldn’t be too hard to get working again.
In any case I was thinking about this situation today and I thought, well the SH-2G(A)’s have yet to prove their worth, why not let them have a bash at it with a Penguin or two? Prove to us that our money is being spent well.
What do you think guys?
I too have wondered about the short bow on the French ships mate, I can only sugest that they have planes themselves for it (possibly a missile encrusted bow or something).
As for the Aussie version of this it would be interesting to see but look at the flanks of the bow, see the gun positions, they could be a hazard to flight ops should we finally put F-35B’s on them.
Scoot: are you saying mate that the CdG is too small for the MN needs and that this new carrier that they are supposed to be getting is a replacement for it?
Who would they sell the CdG to? I mean it seems a waste to scrap a perfectly good carrier, especially after having spent so much money on it. And they can’t jst sell it to anyone due to the nuke power. The list of people is really short, perhaps India or even Russia thought that last one is a doubtfull.
Australia wouldn’t get any, for some reason we don’t like buying second hand, no matter what it is. Personally I’d love to see a sqdn of these in our service, we have such a big area to patrol, espeically from FFV’s that these would be usfull. Even at a cut price bargin and most still have half their airframe lives still to go through. Given that they woun’t be landing on carriers that airframe life would then bump up to about 3/4 so we could still use them for 15-20 years!
Puff: Mate what we are getting in the contract is the four planes, spares and a sim not to forget the tech training. When you factor these in the unit cost does come down dramaticly!
Tin: Mate Puffadder raises a point you know, we aren’t exactly being told the full specs of the deal. What concerns me is the fact that they have said that one will be in service by the end of this year, how can they do that if the contract has only just been signed? It takes a lot of time to built a plane this size from scratch.
I think that some people here have forgotten what the real aim of the comp was, to find a replacement for many types currently inservice and consolidate that into one airframe type.
Wether it be an S-70A-9, an S-70B-2 or a Seaking Mk-50, the MRH-90 was the design chosen to fill the needs and any further order will be of this type for our services, not the MH-60 which was deemed too small for the needs. We will not get any MH-60’s this I am confident in saying.
Sorry mate typo that I didn’t pick up, I meant the RAN
Steady on boy, I want them too but we just have to wait, it’s all politics
If anyone has a copy of “Hunt for Red October” on both board game and Gameboy I’d be interested in buying them.
Also a copy of Jane’s Fleet Command. That was a great RTS
