Oooo please enlighten us mate, you’ve got my interest now!

back before WWI a guy was building a sub in Sydney (right out on the harbour) and was known as a radical. He had proclaimed that when war came he’d use his sub to sink many Australian units. Sadly he was locked away and died in prison but the sub was almost complete, it was tied up for many years but all records of it have now been lost. I’d be interested in finding out what happened to it.

Thanks Lamps, I like many other people get bored with talking over the same topic from many different angles all the time and coming up with the same conclussion in the end. Had to break the monotony some how and what a better way to do so that start talking about other fleet units which make up a navy and also fulfill a very vital role.

Steve: mate I’ve heard of this system and I know that the RN is looking at it very closely for their Merlins. What I’d like tio know is how big this system is and if it could be incorperated into our Super Seasprites? Or if we could use our RAWS Seahawks with this system.

Are there any Kiwi’s monitoring this thread? If so, what’s the general consensus about leasing our two Huons for the RNZN? Why should we lay them up in reserve when you guys could lease them for a term (say five years, ten years with an option to buy after that). It strikes me as odd that a) the Aussie government wants to lay them up- why buy six in the first place if you are only going to use four? b) The New Zealand Navy doesn’t have a mine hunting capability of their own but requeststhe RAN to clear out mines in their area of operation. And finally c) this deal has never been discussed between the two governments.

Dob: that’s correct mate they were one of the first with them. I can’t believe that they are giving up on a 90 year tradition! Very bad show!
