Takes me back – from around 1985 to 1989 I worked in the ATC tower, and also in an office which was closer to the main runways than any other on the airfield.
One day I saw a guy outside my office, standing on top of a Range Rover, watching the aircraft take-off with his young son. It was fairly quiet, so I invited them in to watch from my office’s fenced roof – turned out to be James Hunt, F.1 driver…
Piece of cake – happy birthday!
Very sad to hear the news – RIP Ken…

It’s probably the same as an F.1, which I can measure tomorrow. I presume it’s the stainless steel part you can see – do you need the inside or outside diameter?
Yes, but all now deleted…
Not connected to any project, I’m afraid.
I pulled the aforementioned thread because on reflection the images I had taken at Kinloss were entirely unauthorised, and I should not have related anything I saw or heard.
My apologies to all concerned…
Interesting video. The Theiss guy showboats the disposal as cutting-edge technology, but really it’s nothing any dog won’t do with a bone – dig a big hole, and bury it!
Neither can we…
Hitler’s bodyguard, Rochus Misch, witnessed the two suicides being discovered, and their corpses being taken outside to be burned. He heard someone shout “Hurry upstairs – they’re burning the boss!”.
Last I heard he was terminally ill in Berlin, but still around…

Of course it depends on which direction the wind is blowing at the time – here’s a website with current runway in use information…

The TAF wind info on the right of the page is also useful for guessing which runway might be in use during the rest of the day – the wind element from 20th 07:00 to the 21st 12:00 is 120 degrees 5 knots. It’s more useful in strong wind conditions though, as variations in light wind directions aren’t accounted for…
We used to avidly separate our rubbish into cardboard, paper, glass, tins, wood, etc, and took it all down to our local dump, but then a council insider told us the market had fallen out for recycling rubbish, so that it all went to landfill anyway. Now we don’t bother, and burn as much as we can in our coal fire – amazing just how well stuff like plastic wrapping, milk cartons, and even alloy beer cans burn!
When the first Gulf War came along, I thought the price of petrol was going to go through the roof, so sold my 3.5 litre V8 Rover SD1. In kickdown the trip computer would show 2 mpg, and even coasting downhill would never rise above 18mpg! From the sublime to the ridiculous, I then bought a Nissan Micra…

Every digital (and film for that matter) camera renders its own colour cast. You need to adjust the colour balance of your image in something like Photoshop to suit you…
