And this is almost the exact spot the aircraft stood – the Queen’s Gardens, Hull…

This is Lt Malischewski’s 4869 being camouflaged at Tenterden after being shot down by Bob Tuck on 12.10.40. Afterwards, the aircraft did indeed do the rounds on public display…

My years in the ATC (423 Sqn) in the early 1970s certainly left in indelible impression on me, especially those mothballed WW2 RAF hairy battledress tunics they made us wear, and those nuclear-proof detached collar shirts – I still have the scars.
The Chipmunk flying, model-making, aircraft recognition, 0.303 shooting practice, and sabotaging the instructors at every opportunity were the high points.
Our CO (Bailey) had been a WW2 Sunderland pilot, who had supposedly sunk a U-boat..

Stranger things have been found – 3 WW2 U-boats were rediscovered in 1985 in a demolished sub bunker on the Elbe at Hamburg. It’s not as if they were easily lost either, at 250 feet long!
U-2505, U-3004, and U-3506 were all the advanced revolutionary type XXI electro boats on which the allies base most of their post-WW2 sub technology on.
They are still there, but the bunker has since been filled in with gravel for safety, and a car park built on top of them…

…In the late 60s and up to the mid-to-late 70s when this country last seemed on the brink of oblivion, there was talk of a military coup in this country. Perhaps its time to dust off/update those plans….

Wasn’t that led by David Stirling, but it all fell apart when Mountbatten was approached to become a figurehead for the cause?
I also remember a Hawker Hunter flew under a London bridge in protest against the Labour government of the day…

If we’re nit-picking, the U-Boat commander’s white cap would have had a gold metal eagle, not one embroidered with gold thread like other officers wore…

The Hopkins’ Hannibal movies are great, but this one left me very underwhelmed. I can’t even remember seeing any Stukas…
