    It’s done along the same lines as the Hurricane at the RAFM and if I’m not mistaken a Gladiator at the FAA Museum.

    All these exhibits serve a purpose and do not have to be pristine. It certainly makes it a lot more interesting and gets you thinking.

    I found what I was looking for, Sim flew AB332 from Eagle, this aircraft survived in Malta until 18 October when is was lost with it’s Canadian pilot with 126 Sqn.

    I have Malta the Spitfire Year and Aces High, I don’t have Spitfires over Sicily.

    Red tape? H&S? What are you people on?!

    He’s to sit in it, not fly it.

    Prior to an airshow isn’t a good time to sit in a live aircraft, but afterwards would be okay. I’m sure the guys at Shuttleworth would be up for it and it’d be a far superior venue to watch the Spit in action too.

    My reasoning for Legends is that there are likely to be a few veterans there, in anycase maybe those forum members with contacts at Old Warden (and who regularly remind me of this) would be able to enquire ?????

    Yep, a group might be a handful, but I still think one or two veterans would just make the occasion so much more meaningful and memorable.

    Maybe this little lad and a friend would be a good idea, of course parents would also have to be involved.

    I see that Wolstanton is a 2 hour drive from Duxford, so maybe July and Legends would be a suitable venue.

    I’ve forwarded a copy of the letter to my contacts to see if something could be arranged.

    I’ve never been there in time, can anyone tell me what time the flightline opens and closes?

    Maybe a whole class visit could be arranged to see a Spitfire, and maybe educate a few others his age. And arrange for one or two Spitfire veterans to be there too to make it more memorable for him/them.

    It would be nice, but I think it would be too much to ask to keep a group under control.

    Thanks Swiss Mustang and Dave.

    My interest is in New Zealander Sgt Robert J Simm who flew one of the aircraft, and also William Raoul Daddo-Langlois who was of Channel Island extraction and flew with 249 Sqd during the battle of Malta.

    Yes? Who agrees? I’m happy to do the work. If you want to be in on it, send me one 28p stamp as your contribution, plus a small greeting the size of a matchbox to stick in the card, and Dean can be given something in assembly from us lot.

    Yep I’ll contribute, though it’s a pain getting hold of UK stamps out here in the Mother Country, I’ll drop you something in the post.

    I don’t think H&S is an issue, a young lad was able to sit in BM597 at Chailey last August. I’m on the case !!!!
