The weather this morning put paid to the Nav exercise, fog over the islands and channel, however it cleared to beautiful blue skies at 10:45 and many of the competitors came across. I believe out of 32 expected, 30 have already arrived or will be coming across tomorrow.

I believe from Robbo’s use of an obscure colloquialism that the aforementioned Oliver Holmes was stood in a field at the eastern end of the airfield, having paid no revenue to the organisers of the air display. The term and the associated stigma for such an offence is “Freeloading” or a “Freeloader”.

In some worlds it’s akin to rubbernecking at the scene of an accident !

I sold that “yellow” thing over two years ago. I’m on the look out for a nice F355 or 575M at the moment, it has to be black !

Sad news indeed, I met him at his (then) home in London when he was interviewed for Polish TV. He signed a couple of his books for me and also showed a lot of interested in the Ford Focus hire car I had at the time.

BBMF DC3 did a low pass over the wedding I was photographing this afternoon at approx 13:30, possibly on its way to Normandy.

I wonder what happened to the ladders the lighting guys are sitting on, they’d be great for Legends. A real one upmanship over (literally) the chap that turns up every year with the umpires chair !

Sadly although still appearing on the official register G-AIZY is unlikely to become an airworthy aeroplane again for some time if ever. Some twenty years ago it was seriously vandalised in a field near Caldicot and the remains were later transported to Brunel College of Technology (now part of the University of the West of England) in Bristol. At the time the local press reported that it was to be restored by students but the trail has gone cold. Does anyone have any idea of its current status and location? Hope springs eternal ….

Going back to the late 70’s early 80’s Lulsgate had a resident Dove along with a Trident which both belonged to the Brunel College of Technology. IIRC they were possible both scrapped about 10 years ago when the airfield was being developed.

This is not the only possible cover up involving Spitfires and especially their pilots, look at the Stork Hotel incident. Now there is a story worth investigating 😉
