I missed the article. Would anyone mind sending me a compressed scan to have a read of please? Cheers,

Mark – who has the new DD Video of the Typhoon and loves it. 4 pilots talking about it – 3 from 609 (Sir Joe Atkinson and Sir Ken Adam, and Rik Dupre). Absolute cracker of a video – a pity its not been done as a dvd.

If you can get hold of a copy, I can transfer it !!!!

Flood you’re going to upset Snapper by making disparaging remarks about his beloved Typhoon. 🙂

I was there last year and had a great time, we also had a car for a couple of days and spent a lot of it trying to find signs of the Battle and remains of the old Airfields. We came across the remains of Safi by chance.

The guys at the Air Museum are superb and if asked will show you around their storage rooms, it’s a treasure trove of various parts from all sorts of aircraft and ever expanding.

Hope you enjoy your time there.

If anyone is interested I’ve got it on tape and can convert to DVD, drop me a PM with an address and I’ll drop a copy in the post.

Why couldn’t Ch5 have employed someone with a bit more knowledge, to present the programme. The whole thing was let down by the ignorance of the presenters.

I seem to recall Snapper mentioning this in one of his posts a while back.

No fear of flying, though I don’t like long hall package affairs. I have an in built fear of crashing though, whether it’s the aircraft, car or computer.

I was referring to their role in the D-Day landings – the topic of the thread. Or are you saying that just because they’ve served their country since 1944, they should be given free entrance to the D-Day show at Duxford? This isn’t a “Veteren Commemoration Show” we’re talking about here.

To the certain extent yes in honour of their service they should be given concessions, but I was in general replying to your comment “when they’ve done precisely nothing” .

Let in all the over-70s? That would put the 71 year olds at roughly 11 years old on the 6th June 1944 – veteran? I think not, yet under the “Over 70s” banner they get in free, on the backs of the achievement of others, when they’ve done precisely nothing.

They may not have been old enough to take part in Normandy and WW2 however as the UK has in effect taken part in at least one conflict in every decade since 1945 these “veterans” may have done their “bit” in Korea, Aden, Suez, Falklands, Iraq, Kosavo just to name a few.

I apologise to those of you who thought my off the cuff tongue in cheek remark was out of order, my reasoning is that our(British) veterans get a poor deal from successive British Gov’ts unlike many of the groups that seem to get funding at the drop of a hat.

It was only a short while ago that a group of pensioners in the South West changed the name of their group to something like The Lesbian Dance Group to gain lottery support.

I am not going to turn this thread into a debate on racism or bigotry it is the wrong forum, I will say that I am neither. However I am big enough to admit that my remark has offended some of you and for that I apologise.

The Canadian Gov’t has offered to pay C$1,000 to any D-Day veteran who would like to travel to France to be at the ceremonies taking place.

I believe in the UK the veterans have had to apply to the Lottery commission for a grant. Mind you if they were gay, left handed, single mothers of an ethnic minority and not a British Passport holder they would be given a grant without question.
