Can someone in the know tell me why JFK is such an icon, what did he actually do besides the Bay of Pigs and Marilyn

Not born when JFK didn’t duck

    Didn’t care enough about Elvis.

John Lennon not sure, probably school

Diana- I had just got out of bed, switched on the TV, got annoyed because the sound was down and I couldn’t find the remote to turn it up.

The twin towers – I had just finished a course and was having a coffee in a cafe waiting for my wife to finish work, it came on the radio but I couldn’t hear because of the racket that two Portuguese waitresses were making, after trying to convince them that they should shut up to no avail, I walked to the car and listened there totally stunned.

Queen Mother – I was visiting my father in hospital when it came on the news

I’m trying to think what else maybe of interest to you.

Apart from the obvious airfields such as Filton, Lulsgate (Bristol) on the A38, Exeter, Crewkerne, Yeovil (Westlands) and Yeovilton as well as the few museums already mentioned I can’t think of anything obvious.

You may get to see RR’s MkXIX at Filton as well as Concorde BOAF, Lulsgate has DH104 G-ANAP, Trident G-AVFM, WF410 Varsity stored around the airfield.

At Banwell not far from the Egg Beater Museum on the A371 to the East of Weston-Super-Mare was the Bristol Aero Collection comprising of: G-ALRX Britannia 101, G-ANCF Britannia 308F, G-ARRM Beagle 206, XJ917 Sycamore HR14, XV798 Harrier GR1, BAPC87 Baby III Replica, this may now be at Kemble

Norton Fitz Warren – Military Aircraft Spares Ltd had three Wessex HC2’s XR501, XS677/WK, XT606/WK

Located on a minor road which leads from the A30, about 1.5 miles from Henstridge village. Stored here are G-ALYG Auster 5D, G-ANEW DH82A, G-ARJD PA22, G-AWYX MS.880B, Stinsons NC2612.

There is the grave of one of Chamberlains “Munich” pilots at Portishead in North Somerset and the Old Airfield at Whitchurch (Bristol) which is due to be redeveloped in the not too distant future, the hangars are now a sports hall.

You could switch to steam engines, there are a few steam rides to be had in the area, at Minehead and Shepton Mallet. David Shepherd the artist has an interest in the one at Shepton Mallet, he also paints aircraft as well as wild life.

Enjoy your week, we may bump into each other you if you’re in the Clevedon area next Friday or Saturday morning. The present MRSEN830 and I start the long journey to DX on Saturday afternoon.
