    There are two L25’s registered in the UK

    G-AAUP registered to a lady in Hungerford and G-ACXE to a Gentleman in Buxted, neither appear to be airworthy.

    Have you tried writing to the local papers in the Wakefield area, I’m guessing but they maybe interest in a story like this ?

    I don’t own one (any mp3 player), but I hear the Archos products are pretty good: http://www.archos.com/products/gen_5/index.html?country=global&lang=en

    They are until you have to send them back to be repaired, the after sales service is a nightmare.

    One question for you – many sources say the RFTS Spits were all
    XVIe versions (“e” for clipped wing) but in the film and all stills I’ve
    seen they all have the classic curved wing. Sorry I’m not that
    knowledgable on the Spitfire but did the “e” have clipped and
    elliptical wings?

    I thought the “A” “B” “C” and “e” designations were to do with the configuration of the guns fitted or that could be fitted ?

    An R-3 was projected to operate at 52000 ft powered by two 1500 hp Jumo 208 diesel engines Alan

    It’s always intrigued me how they stopped the diesel from waxing at the low temperatures found at such high altitudes ?

    I agree with your thoughts but sadly the MOD is so short of money with the government demanding that it is more like a business everyday. It is then forced to make money by every means available to it. I am sure that there are many of us who are employed by the MOD who would like to see more aircraft go to preservation – the government is to blame for it not happening due to its short sighted policies.

    It’s a quite a big airframe, realistically who would be able to take and maintain them ?

    The pilot has been named as Alex de Gruchy a local businessman.

    I had the pleasure of meeting Alex a number of times over the past year. The last time at the Helping Hands charity event at the Jersey Aeroclub last month where he was one of the pilots who gave up his Saturday to fly disadvantaged children around the island.

    Basically if you think a memorial is appropriate, forget the government, get off your arses and start fund raising and make it happen. Good luck
