Back in previous thread I gave a plausible exit for this gentleman, that in fact he was right in that he had helped a legless airman at the Stork Hotel in Liverpool, but as we can all accept this was not under any circumstances Douglas Bader. However it may have been Colin “Hoppy” Hodgkinson who at one time or another served with various units close to or within a short hop (no pun intended) of Liverpool, and was referred to as the poor-mans Douglas Bader.
At no point in his diatribe does Mr Williams make any reference to Hodgkinson, or try to dispute my reasoning’s, instead he chooses to carry on with his,“if you weren’t around during the war, you know nothing” attacks.
Throughout my research I have met several former POW’s of different nationalities, a few of which were in various camps at the same time as Bader, and one in particular who was saved from a severe beating at the hands of the guards by the intervention of Bader himself. This airman went on to become great friends with Bader, Stanford-Tuck and Bushell during their incarceration, even helping Bader by carrying him on his back when the guards saw fit to take his legs away in punishment. Are these airmen party to the scam as given by Mr Williams and have remained silent for all these years, or was there a doppelganger present and they have been hood-winked along with everyone else ?????
Personally I stand by my first assumption, that there may have been a legless airman at the Stork Hotel, but this was not Bader, but may have been Hodgkinson. Your honour I submit this as my evidence to the jury.
I notice that since my earlier post, Mr William’s website has been updated, and I am now a Muslim Hugger, and Tangmere has disappeared all together.
