Here in Jersey, despite our limiting housing regulations we’ve had a steady influx of Poles over the past few years, prior to that it was the Portuguese and prior to that the French.

I welcome the Poles with open arms, they’re polite, educated, hard working and in comparison to their predecessors clean. The resident Portuguese population vehemently refuse to merge into local society, small enclaves of Portuguese establishments have sprung up over St Helier and certain areas can feel somewhat intimidating to go through.

Recently a visiting minister from Madeira claimed that Catholic Church services in Jersey should be conducted in Portuguese as well as English. Ironic in some ways as the chief Catholic representative in Jersey is a Pole.

Like the UK local businesses especially the local construction contractors are complaining about the Poles under cutting them, and that a number of them haven’t worked in weeks. I found this strange as I have been trying to get an electrician to come and fit some outside lights for me for weeks. Despite promising to be here at a certain time, they fail to show. When you do get a local contractor to show up, his prices are 9 times out of 10 over inflated.

The Poles come to the UK to, in the main, do the jobs the locals don’t want to. Would those same locals take on the jobs the Poles are doing if they stopped coming, nah !!!they can get more on the Social.

“you can imagine what a bitter blow it is to me”,

After his years of appeasement I would guess it was a bitter blow. However those few years bought some time for modernisation of at least some of the armed services.

If war had happened at the time of the Munich Crisis, Britain would have been fighting with types such as the Fury and a few Hurricanes. Chamberlain was probably mistaken in his acts of appeasement, though through this the greater victor was achieved.

Unlike many wars, including WW1 IMHO WW2 was a neccessary war which had to be fought to rid the World of a greater evil.

See, so it WAS a good move by the moderation team to delete all that junk. Still, it must be galling to lose several thousand of your post count. perhaps those affected could add their deleted total to their signature instead, just to retain their place in the heirachy?

After all the bitching about the moderation over the years, I have to say they’ve come up trump’s this time.

A big pat on the back to one and all involved.

The difference is that Peter Vacher seems to have got his paperwork right. And there are no police/legal cases on that export.

The same cannot be said of the Bf109 because the police case is still ‘open’

    Jagan

Be very aware of what you are insinuating, this subject was brought up on this forum nearly 12 months ago and resulted in a threat of legal action and one forum member (moderator) receiving a life’s ban from the forum for posting accusations of wrong doings.

I had from the German Ambassador in London a while back that came with a personal award to me for my work in advancing Anglo/German reconciliation and in assisting relatives of dead aircrew in the repatriation of war dead. Must be quite unusual to make an award like that to such an anorak! Andy Saunders

I have something similar from the French.
