I’ve noticed some colourful language on 28DL aimed at me, so I’d like to clarify my previous comments.

I wasn’t referring to the Nimrod entry as theft. It was the after hours museum visit.

I used to like that forum, but it’s become quite clear to me that a significant number of them have no respect for others property or privacy. There always used to be a degree of respect, that forum has seriously gone downhill 🙁

And by giving them so much free publicity we are helping them

(oh, and BTW, last time I was at that place in daylight I did pay – for 7 adults and 28 kids!!!!) (which was a painfully high ‘donation’)

It doesn’t matter what spin you put on it, it was done without permission so it’s theft.

There’s a big difference between respectfully exploring some abandoned ruins and entering a place that charges for entry.

I’m all for urban exploration, but by going to a museum and not paying entry you’re stealing from them.

However, I’m sure you wouldn’t be against giving them a sizeable donation 🙂

I’ve just finished Vulcan 607, which I thought was fantastic 😎

It reads like a Clive Cussler novel, but obviously anchored in real events. It gives you a great insight into the mammoth task they had and that the Vulcan and Victor were still fantastic platforms 30 years after their conception, carrying out tasks they weren’t designed to do.

As the local paper reported, quote:

“Shortly after the find, a worker at Harpers fish and chip shop, on Hull Road, told The Press: “We have been made to shut up shop and nobody has been allowed in to the area.”

    Harpers (York)
    15 Hull Road
    York
    North Yorkshire
    YO10 3JL
    Tel: 01904 414 004

    See http://www.harpersfishandchips.co.uk/

More worryingly, I hear that there is a “Jet” Petrol Station just a few yards away from where this bomb was found (Is that true? If it is, then any explosion would be very messy!)

But, seriously, the local newspaper report fails to mention if the bomb was “one of ours” or “one of theirs” (i.e., German) – presuming that it is of 1939-45 vintage.

If is was “one of theirs”, then York was hit several times by the Luftwaffe in WW2 during the so-called “Baedeker Raids of 1942-44. York was first hit in these raids on 24 April 1942 during which the York Guildhall was damaged (see http://yorkairraids.wordpress.com/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baedeker_Blitz)

Another theory is that the bomb is German, yes, but of 1914-18 vintage:

“The “domed end” suggests to me that – just possibly – this might be a WWI Zeppelin bomb, and I have a feeling the airship that bombed Heworth in May 1916 tracked across the Hull road area first.”

It’s very near both a Jet and a Shell petrol station!

The problem at the moment as regards naval aviation .

There is clearly a global market for a naval Harrier replacement, and potentially a cheap alternative to the F-35B could also entice other countries to make the move to naval aviation. The Sea Gripen seems to be well-placed to meet this market demand.

I agree completely that there’s potentially a huge demand for a Harrier replacement. However, I don’t sea the Gripen as the solution. It would need to be capable of V/STOVL.

I reckon there’s alot of scope for development of the Gripen though, in these cash strapped times it’s an absoloutely gem.

Are there any plans to allow internal tours of the Halifax? Something I really would like to do and would be happy to make a contribution to the cause.

You used to be able to, cost circa £150 IIRC.
