So if they dropped a stick, you might be straggled by them or sitting on top of one… :p
Goes to get spade…

2 explanations I can immediately think of:
– jettisoned by an aircraft from either Elvington, Pocklington, Clifton or Riccal/Skipwith.
– The railway yard was attacked at least once, so could quite easily be from that.
The area the bomb was found in wasn’t particularly developed then, where as now it’s just outside the city centre.

Yeah nice, just needs all the perspex replacing and maybe one or is two bits of framing replacing…

There is no bombbay as such. the video I have about it’s reconstruction
shows that the used L-shaped wooden formers to give the idea of closed bombbay doors. The fuselage interior is fully fitted out.
It’s simply a magnificent exhibit and night events such as East Kirkby would
be magical.

Especially if the BBMF could be persuaded to bring their Lanc up for a sleepover 😀 what a fantastic sight that would be.

You have to remember though that a British soldier (any western soldier really) is paid a whole lot more then a soldier in China, India or Russia. Therefor the Chinese, Indians and the Russians can spend a greater share of their overall budget on buying/developing equipment. Next to that are secondary expenses that are taken for granted here and laughed at in other countries. I would imagine the barracks in the UK to be more pleasant then those in China, same for medical treatment, but also the over-all level of training.
And that’s even before the military operations overseas are added in the mix.
That’s not to say there ain’t a whole lot of waste in the defence department of the UK. Or any western nation for that matter.
Even the US seems to get better VFM than us, though i suppose economies of scale will have some impact.
Given the blatant corruption in arms procurement in the US, it does make you wonder what is going on over here 🙂

Being used for spares = in service? Interesting.
Bits of them will be in service 😀
I really hope that one day, we have a Historic flight in this country that keeps types such as the Harrier flying. It must be one of the great Bitish aircraft, and infact innovations of all time.
A friend of my grandad flew Stirlings and then transferred to Lancasters and then later onto costal command Liberators. He preferred the Stirling to the others, calling it “more of a pilots plane” iirc.
Next thing will be an ex Nigerian Air Force Stirling!:D
That’s where it went 😀
