Who are we calling migrants?
Really?!
immigrant
a person who migrates to another country, usually for permanent residence.

I.E, anyone not born here.
And besides which, if you’re going to play the history game, I’m sure you’re aware that Syrians amongst others invaded Europe as part of the Ottoman empire, and slaughtered millions of innocent people? But it is not relevant to the current situation, just as your example is not.
I am ashamed of our governments’ response to this, it belittles us all.
For those who maintain they are proud to be British, this is not what I believe the British values of tolerance and fair play are about, and our standing in the world which Little Englanders think so important is diminished.
Have you completely overlooked the fact that we are the second largest financial contributor to the refugees? Countless thousands of lives already saved because of British generosity and values.
Secondly, why do you think there is resistance to taking in the refugees? We have had 15 15 years of mass immigration forced on the UK by the EU. These were people who were not desperate, but merely economic migrants who were in no danger. The generosity and good nature of the British people has been abused, and this is the result. I’m sure most have no issue in taking people in from the camps by the way, it is the economic migrant horde working its way up through Hungary and Austria, mainly composed of young males, that people are taking issue with.
Calling people little Englanders because they do not want infinite immigration is deeply ignorant. It is like me calling those who are encouraging the migrants over murderers, because they are in part responsible for the drownings in the Med. It is totally nonconstructive.

that will support the NHS and the increasing pensions bill?
Our NHS and pensions are basically run as a giant Ponzi scheme, and the longer this goes on, the worse it will be at the end.
Perpetual growth is not a sustainable model.

Such a shame, she was one of the most interesting of the Reno racers (and that’s really saying something!). Glad no one was hurt.
Apparently Corbyn didn’t even show up at Parliament yesterday for the EU referendum vote. Considering this is a hugely important subject for the party he is about to become leader of, this is very odd. What is even stranger is that he was at Westminster, because he was out the front with the protesters only an hour or so before! π

There is a growing problem with extremism, and obviously some of that has to do with the UKs foreign policy. But it also goes much further still. In my many discussions with Muslims from around the UK, I can confirm that these are widely held beliefs:
– 911 is/was a conspiracy. Either by the CIA or the Zionists. There is little acceptance that it could have been Islamic extremists.
– The Holocaust did not happen, or it did but at nothing like the scale Western history acknowledges.
– Pretty much every ill in the middle east is due to the UK/USA, Saudi Arabia or Israel (or Israhell as many refer to it). There is never any acceptance that there are deep cultural and religious issues.
– Gaza/Palestine is the worst tragedy in human history. Only the Zionists are to blame, the Palestinians are totally innocent.
– any suggestion that the barbaric practices of FGM, forced marriages, incest, homophobia, racism, apostasy and blasphemy laws etc need changing is met with ‘it does, but in baby steps’. (never mind the poor victims?!)
I think that anti-Semitism has become so ingrained in our Muslim communities, that they do not see that this has become a common path to extremism. I am fortunate to count a couple of moderate Muslims among my close friends, and they would be the first to tell you that anti-Semitic rhetoric is a growing problem.

Truly excellent work with the Tornado π It looked so tired before.
The point I was trying to make, appallingly badly (having re-read it), was that the United Kingdom electorate are unlikely to regard anybody but themselves when deciding who is ‘needy’ and who is ‘rich’ and the option that they are most likely to vote for is the one that benefits them while somebody else pays; this is sold to them as ‘fairness’ or ‘equality’. Nothing wrong with that it is what most politicians practice.
Of course, while calling for ‘equality’, those that regard themselves as being in need only consider those who are better-off than themselves and never the, far larger, numbers who are considerably worse-off than themselves. They may also be dismayed to discover that, even within the United Kingdom, they were perhaps not as badly-off as they imagined and they are included as part of the anonymous ‘rich’ who are expected to pay more tax. Be careful what you wish for!
Welcome to Socialism 101 π
The Socialist almost always believe that they are already doing their part and paying enough. They will quickly divert the attention towards tax avoidance, making sweeping generalisations about the wealthy, and generally blame the Tories for everything. They would never voluntarily practice the ideology they preach, apparently they ‘need’ 2 holidays a year, digital TV and the full catalogue of Apple devices.
As Maggie quite eloquently put it, βThe problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.β
The socialist only ever thinks of the here and now, and pay no thought to sustainability; financially, socially and environmentally.

It is a service (the clue is in the name) that we once thought of as a badge of honour, a mark of civilisation hard fought for and won. But it doesn’t need a speech.
Sadly, the NHS was doomed to failure from the off. There was no conception at the time of how treatments would develop, and how large the service could become. It has spiralled out of control to the point we’re at now, where it is becoming unaffordable. I dare say we could chuck 100% of GDP at the NHS and it still wouldn’t be right. Although manned by an admirable front line who do a great job under tough conditions, the service has become full of managers, bureaucrats, consultants and other parasites that drain vital resources.
