Or you could fly IAH-LON-JNB/CPT with BA then use the BA flights operated by franchise operator Comair to get around down there.
That would have the advantage of doing the whole thing on one booking.

As I have said in similar threads the rules really are no longer about what the airlines say you can take on board, more what the government say you can carry through the security check.
Strictly speaking the laptop has to go inside the one piece of handluggage, as only one piece is allowed to pass through security at any uk airport.
Once you have passed through security you can take it out again as long as your airline allows 2 pieces of handluggage (the laptop being the second) per person in the cabin you are travelling in.
I have to say each airport, and indeed terminal, seems to have it’s own level of adherance to this rule. From my experience MAN are very strict with the rules, LHR T1 less so, particularily at Flight Connections Centre where anything seems to be acceptable, while LHR T4 and LGW are positively anal about imposing the rules.
Everything you need to know should be here.

Interesting that they have superimposed the picture onto a different sky.

Also Andrew, they won’t have traffic rights, therefore wouldn’t be able to carry pax.

“AN airline is flying an empty passenger jet daily just to hold on to a runway slot – and there’s nothing the airport can do to stop it.”
I wouldn’t have thought either airport would want to stop it. They’ll still be getting their landing charges.
For ignorance from our press.

Looks very nice
Looks just the same.

Obviously in my position I don’t think there should be any further taxes on flying, and I also don’t seriously think it will discourage flying anyway, therefore discounting any Green argument.
My personal feeling is that if governments must tax flying further then the truly regular flyers are not the people to target, as they are arguably some of the people sustaining the economy by running industry and commerce.
If there are to be truly Green arguments then the people to target (and I know I may well be shot down in flames for saying so on here) are surely the people who fly for the fun of it, not because they have to, the £2.99 return weekenders to Prague, or the lets fly to Barcelona because it’s cheaper than the train to Brighton day trippers.
I know more of us on here (myself included) are the latter rather than than the former and would therefore be affected, but taxing the regular flyers would seriously damage UK.PLC in my opinion.

Why not stick the model on the roof of T5 then ???
Not sure about on the roof, but inside the terminal might have worked. Mind you, knowing Willy Walsh I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts the model on eBay to make a few quid!

That piece of land costs £1.5m a year to rent, I guess WW & co feel they can do more with the money, especially as there is a real Concorde permenantly at LHR.
There was a plan to house G-BOAB inside T5, but I gather that proved impractical. As far as I’m aware it’s current location is where it will be for the forseeable future. Maybe the T5 entrance roundabout wouldn’t be such a bad location.

What routes will this airline fly from LCY?
EDI, FRA, MAD and MXP at the moment, with GLA and ZRH starting at the end of March. More routes are under consideration with MAN tipped as the next, although I would think VLM would be hard to crack on that one.
Thanks 1L, the confusion is understandable…
Absolutely, given the similarity in the names, and the rate at which BA keep rearranging things.

BA Cityflyer Was that Not BA airline some years back.
There has always been a bit of confusion on this board regarding CityFlyer Express and CitiExpress. With apologies to those who know which is which, let me explain.
CityFlyer Express was an independant airline based at LGW, which saw it’s roots go back through Euroworld, Air Europe Express and Guernsey Airlines. It became a BA franchise, was in due course bought by BA, and became part of what is now the BA operation at LGW. It’s ATR aircraft were used by BA at LGW for a short time before being disposed of, and it’s RJ100s became part on the BA CitiExpress fleet which later became BA Connect.
The London City flights and the 10 RJ100 aircraft that BA Connect operated are not part of the FlyBE deal and are to be retained by BA. A new subsidiary has been formed to operate these flights with bases at LCY and EDI. As the CityFlyer Express name was still owned by BA and was appropriate (perhaps moreso than to the original airline to use it) the name BA CityFlyer has been given to the new operation.
To clarify, BA CitiExpress was the BA regional subsidiary airline formed by the merger of British Airways Regional, British Regional Airlines, Manx Airlines and Brymon Airways. This effectively operated as a BA franchise before going down the no-frills route and becoming BA Connect, which has in turn now been sold to FlyBE.

potentially Swiss European and Lufthansa Regional could take some of the RJ100s?
They are being retained by BA for use by the new EDI and LCY based subsidiary BA Cityflyer.
speculating that once BA decide the GAtwick operation is unprofitable BA will effectivly become Heathrow Airways
I would think that is not an unreasonable expectation.
1L.
Si, according to the BE website it’s the 20 routes above and nothing else.
