I wonder if this is the same guy that runs (or at least used to) a similar website about BA.

When you say that passengers weren’t told to fasten their seatbelts after fuelling was finished, I assume that the seatbelt signs were switched on at some point before push-back, and that a safety briefing (demo) was done. So in fact they would have been told twice!

The only requirement to advise whether seatbelts should be unfastened or fastened is the seatbelt signs. This is the Captains word, and is law. Failure to comply is actually a criminal offence. Any other instructions or checks are simply to encourage/enforce compliance.

Although not ideal, cabin crew missing the odd belt doesn’t suggest poor training to me, but does perhaps suggest being only human, and I am sure you will forgive us for that!

The current lapstrap seatbelts have been proven to be effective, and also have the advantage that you can get your head below the level of the seat back, allowing the seat to protect you from overhead lockers (and contents) should they become detached from the cabin roof.

The other advantage is that they are about as simple a seatbelt as you can have. EVERY time I check a cabin is secure for take off or landing at least 1 or 2 people have them fastened incorrectly, so I wouldn’t like to see a belt that is any more complex being fitted to passenger seats. It is also worth mentioning that if you slide forward on our seat during braking on the runway, then your belt was not fastened tightly enough.

“Thank you for your attention, and we wish you a pleasant flight.”

On shorthaul we now all fly all 3 types, B757, B767, and A319/320. From about September onwards we will start training onto the A321 as well. This will still be 3 aircraft types in the eyes of the CAA.

When we had the B737 and Concorde (which was crewed by shorthaul) is was more complex with each person being on 3 of the 5 types in the fleet.

    Mark,

Cabin Crew in the UK can be licenced on 3 aircraft types at once. Series’ of aircraft, eg 737-200/300/400/500 count as one type, as does the A318/319/320/321.

I currently fly 757, 767 and Airbus, having picked up the 767 to replace the 737 when it left LHR.

    Over the years I have flown B727-100/200, B737-200/300/400/500, B747-200/400, B757-200, B767-300, Fokker100, BAC1-11, DC10 and A319/320 for BA and 3 other airlines.

    Mark,

I never cease to be amazed by what you know about our fleet.

Funnily enough A319 G-EUPG (also pictured) is the aircraft I went to MXP on later in the day.

    Thanks,

Do you know if the BA 757 is G-CPEM?

Just wondering if that’s a photo of me arriving back from LIS on the slightly delayed BA497 landing just before 1700.

Checked this one recently with the powers that be at work.

Still no plans to return the 747 to LGW.

    Absolutely right tenthije.

BASE Airlines (originally called BASE Regional) were a BA franchise operator very briefly before they went bust, probably 3 or 4 years ago now. They operated 120’s as well as Jetstream 31/41’s.

The only route to the UK was Rotterdam to Gatwick.

The bridge was built on a remote part of the airfield, then moved in one piece to it’s final location. Apparently quite a sight to see.

It has been designed with viewing in mind, but as it’s airside you will have to be travelling to have access. The original design even had a reinforced glass floor, but it was decided that people wouldn’t be comfortable walking on glass at that height. Some people have no sense of adventure!

Not sure. I would think there are busses headed from LHR to Langley and Slough along the Bath Road.

I will see if I can find out for you when I go to work on Sunday.

I’m not a pilot Bm55, I’m Cabin Crew. I have flown at LGW for several airlines including BA, now shorthaul LHR.

I was on the Tucson trip for fire watch and to feed and water the pilots.

    Jeanske,

The last of BA’s 737-200’s was disposed of about 4 years ago. They went off to various places, mostly South America and Africa as you might imagine.

I was lucky enough to take G-DGDB to Tucson Arizona, via Lasham, Keflavic and Montreal, on it’s delivery flight to WinAir.

I also operated the last commercial service of a BA -200 from MAN to LGW.

    1L.
