😀 😀
Its better than our mosquito, and will quite happily give it a home, dodgy canopy or not! (Loan or free though…..)
“What mosquito?” I hear you cry!
We have an exhaust section…………….
Yesterday’s update
We were in the Evening Chronicle yesterday – Its another local paper, this one covering the whole of the tyneside area – alot of people….
There is no link on their website, but here’s a couple of links to the pictures:

It is worth mentioning at this point that we had to pretend to be doing some work on the Vulcan…
Semi hogg and Yours truely – caught on film. I don’t appear in mirrors oddly…
Thank you to the evening chronicle, and of course our very own Karl Edmondson who set the whole thing up!
I THINK its the guys from Binbrook…. don’t quote me on that though….
Mizpah, we have a dozen usually through the gates daily, weekends are busier, but not by much. We only charge 3 quid to get in simply because of the lack of facilities on site! The average punter will spend an hour at the most here – again, lack of facilities! We need a cafe…..
Paying customers just about cover the running costs, but all restoration is done out of our own pockets usually. There has been a cash injection on a regular basis from Ghost HAunted due to their regular ghost watches on site.

We are forging ahead with EXTERNAL restorations in a bid to make the aircraft presentable, as well as doing the groundwork for better facilities and a tidier site. One of the main problems is lack of manpower. The Vulcan guys have explicit instructions to stay on the Vulcan in a hope that it will get done! The rest of us are working on everything else – there are half a dozen of us in total…..
Livewirex – you must have either spoke to Billy (baseball cap) or Steve C (long girly hair), and neither of them told me anyone was looking for me…. Nice of you to drop in though! At least you have seen first hand the enormous task ahead of us…..
Quick update -A stand has been constructed thanks to our newest member, Paul, ready for the section of R100 Airship. I’d been tripping over it since I first went to NEAM and never realised what it was…. Now it will have its own stand and information!
I started to polish the F86 ready for the nose art:
1:sand down panel with decreasing grades of wet+dry to remove 60 years worth of scratches….
2: Polish to a mirror finish..
I did 4 panels today….. its going to take a while……
The Canberra will be moved on Saturday as will the Lightning – the jetpipes are going to help a running Lightning. (Cranberry is just being pulled forward to allow us to move a few other aircraft about…)
The Evening Chronicle newspaper paid us a visit today for an article in TOMORROWs paper! Yours Truely and Semi-Hogg will be pictured (pretending to work!)
And Millom – NO!:D
I can only dream of having facilities like yours, the available money, and the overall drive amongst all!
Well done..
I always said chinooks were dangerous……………
Good, my evil plan worked (cue Scooby Doo laughter)
John, yes the Chippy was a pretty comprehensive job. Stripped back to bare metal, new fabric all round, new cowls, one new wing, new tailplane, rudder, elevators. Cockpit was completely overhauled, and we have a runnable engine to fit in due course (no hurry!). I need 2-3 days to finish it off, but need better weather than I have had lately!
Lee, yes – half a lifetime away – scary isnt it!
Bruce
would have got away with it if it wasn’t for those pesky kids…..
Like I said – its all looking good. But now I want to come down there and see it for myself…..
Stealing my thunder….:D
Nice work down there! I last visited some years ago when we popped in with a Victor MLG on the back of a Landrover….. just in passing…
The chippy looks sweet – has it been a full restoration?
TA122 is looking well – and we need a gratuitous shot of the mossie prototype!
Well done Bruce and everyone else!
Same dates as Jeeps and Jets at North East Aircraft Museum. Same deal with us (as mentioned on this forum some weeks ago) – heritage days, so free entry (tickets for the 1940’s dance are 4 quid).
Good to see a local council actually assisting! Have a good weekend guys!
Hey lovely pics Pete:) where is the museum…? the photos show 2 shacks… an address..directions…
Kenbo
gatwick, kent(?)
south of London anyway…..

I’d agree with it probably being the chaps from the north west! They do get about a bit….;)
They brought the welland and griffon to our gaff a while back – I missed it! gutted.
When I was at Air atlantique over the winter, they were saying that the blue T4 is waiting to be civillianised, and is in a queue for the work. It was sat outside on the grass and didn’t even have power applied during the six months I was there….
Has the starter cartridge problem been sorted out which had grounded the sea hawk and other canberra? I heard that supplies were running VERY low, and alturnative means of starting were being looked at. I know AA’s cranberry is flown still, but how often I could not guess…
I’d love to see a few more cranberry’s flying on the show circuit too. Imagine a T4, B2 AND PR9 in formation….
As for a new national project return to flight – are there any aircraft which COULD capture public attention as much as the Vulcan? With the exception of the lightning, I can’t think of one. In my humble view, someone should buy the recently retired military jets with a view to fly them at some point in the future (Jags, Tonkas….). HHA’s Buccaneer will probably be the next ‘complex’ aircraft to fly.
Would TVOC be interested in forming a ‘Cold War’ heritage flight? – Vulcan, Buccaneer, Hunter, Canberra PR9, Lightning (?), Phantom (?)… imagine the running costs!
Does anyone know why the Mosquito has what appear to be poorly made replica supercharger inlets?….. surely with the experese of the IWM and associated people, the correct items could be found or fabricated?….
Its a fabulous building, and its good to see so many aircraft indoors (and a concorde NOT in the centre of the building with all lights pointing to it). A job well done with alot of expansion display space.
