AND we need to take off the remaining 3 exhaust end caps…….. drill time:D
while i’m at it, I owe Dave an apology – I said xl319 had olympus 301’s and he said it has 201’s. He was right. Originally, it was fitted with 201’s which were later uprated to 202’s.
On that note Vulcan fans, what is the defining difference between the 200 and 300 series olympus, and why does xm603 have shorter exhaust end caps that 319?…..
Will there be much for us, the academy lot, to do on Tuesday? I’m sick of shifting gravel 😀
Just the bloke! Bring some wet and dry with you… You guys have the option of restoring the entrance ladders and the entrance door of the Vulcan (the internal laders and grab handles on the ejector seats need the same treatment), or the rather dubious pleasure of polishing the port side of the F86D…… Not sure what else at the minute!
no more gravel!!!!!
Good to see Jon Whaley has still not bowed to the pressure to repaint the Hunter. I LOVE G-PSST……
I was at Sunderland Airshow at the time of East Fortune… Heard good reports though! Any more pics?
Ever had one of those days?
Thanks to Neil for mucking in today!
And thanks to Steve for letting me drive his Jeep! I got to get me one of those….
Today, not much happened! The lightning paint strip continues apace thanks to Dave and Roy – She should be ready for painting fairly soon! A few panels will have to be fabricated, but nothing major is wrong with her – except the fin work.
The Vulcan Canopy has been sealed thanks to Mr. Silicone, and hopefully, that should stop the rainfall inside the cockpit! The crew access ladder has been removed for painting this week. Tomorrow, the Main u/c leg doors are coming off to preserve whats left of them. Hopefully, we should have a new set coming to us.
The Bofors gun now traverses merrily, and the barrel elevates. All thats left is alot of paint, and later, an investigation of the hydraulics. Every movement is manual for now…
Aside from that, nothing happened! Just one of those frustrating days….

Well stone the crows! I couldn’t get a listing for any of those. Boldon is about half a mile from me. I’m happy now. Guess where I’ll be going!:D
Is the F4 going to stay in its Mig Killing markings?….
The work you all put in is amazing!
Not one cinema north of the M62 and south of edinburgh…. I would have to drive 2 hours to see it…. 😡
Bet the guy wishes he had written the immortal line, “I reserve the right to withdraw from this auction at any time”
mmmm naked avon….
she’s a credit to you! Wonderful!
AND I BEAT BEX TO A CANBERRA THREAD!!!! :p
According to the news section of their website Silver Lady is scheduled to be in the static display at Elvington.
However, they are also still advertising the Vulcan to be headlining the show and with only two weeks before the show the thing hasn’t even flown yet.
Another participant is listed as a RNHF Swordfish, also a non flyer at the moment I believe.
I also see from another thread on this forum that the victor is short of funds and may not be able to do its fast taxi run at the same show!
Take these out of the equation and the program looks a quite weak. Very sad really, I remember just a few years ago they put on one of the best shows I have ever attended (and that takes in a fair number). A well thought out program with a good mix of aircraft from WW1 to the modern era.
Do you remember seeing some ramp tramps legging it down the runway after the WWI Fokker and Sopwith Triplanes?…. one of them was me!….. It was a good show, shame it seems to have gone to the dogs. False advertising too… tut tut….
Gentlemen relax….
I think DB’s ‘miracle working’ comments are a bit harsh, but I can see both sides of the story.
An RAF Major team would consist of alot of people on the shop floor. Possibly upwards of 50? Mainly due to the fact that the RAF over do everything. For example, on SAR we had three shifts of 10 guys. The civvie crews are able to do the same job with 3 guys….
Components would be sent away during a major , thus involving even more people, as has happened at TVOC. Even the Lanc major this year – there was 6 of us on the shop floor, and maybe upwards of 50 or 60 at various 3rd line stations (CFS Aeroproducts etc.)
I think what has happened here is a simple mix up. TVOC may only have 20 people in the hangar, but there are many more behind the scenes!
I’ll get me coat
The RAF Finningly Airshow when the Blue Angels made their only appearance! What a show! the Blues tore up the place (even over the crowdline) and to top it off, XH558 stopped on the taxiway not 40 ft away for what seemed like an age. The best airshow and a day to remember. That show single handedly got me interested in REAL aeroplanes! (I think I was about 11 ish… can’t remember the year!)
They have already been unbelievebly helpful, and thats without the bits from 603! I don’t want to push it…. (Plus we have the manuals for the a.a.p.p. shhhh). Ground power would suffice anyway. With a houchin, and a fire tender, I’m pretty certain we could get some flashing lights…. I did make a nasty discovery today though – hundreds of aircraft fuses laid in the AEO’s table tray…………….
there are No 35 sqn vulcans, and in 1972 she wore gloss in 35, i too love the gloss,
wonder if bae have any recessed doors for the blue steel;) 😉 😉 😉 😉
We’d need a blue steel too. All the fittings are there, plus the stencilling in the bomb bay, AND the lights and switches in the cockpit… Don’t tempt me…:D
Hmm, as for the colour scheme, I’m pretty set on 617, but maybe a 35 badge
could be added to one side of the fin…… if you ask nice enough and don’t take my kidney…;)
And Peter – NO!
well…. not yet anyway…..a few years beck the a.a.p.p was run regularly, lights and bomb doors cycled. nothing has changed except the passage of time and the a.a.p.p. is broken. don’t know why, it just failed to start and never managed again….
