not a clue. I think the Vulcan and Hunter are OK, everything else has had the instruments removed where there was deemed to be a risk…

Brittania: Its 10 miles, maximum. get the metro to the Stadium of light or the centre of town, then get the bus (56 or X88) to nissan. It will take an hour max. The chairman comes from Keilder, Misha is from Newcastle too, (and I live half a mile away, so I can’t comment…..). The air cadets from Chester-le-Street have also started coming down. Our memebrs come from miles around. There is nothing to say you have to treat it like a job… once a month is better than nothing! We have alot going on. Thanks for the interest, and the pics of 319 (Mine always end up too small on here…)

I know. There are plenty of other things to worry about before that decision is made final though….

What is the reasoning behind the move of the Lightning and F-100 outside. Surely this just makes more targets for the vandals ?

Well, you know Chris better than I do……

The shed which those two are in is a bit crowded and is also the restoration hangar now. (things have been moved around since you were there a couple of weeks ago…) The Whilwind is now nestled alonside the F100 and the JP. I don’t think the move will be for a while, like I said earlier, the Dove is about to join them in there and possibly some other hardy airframes (helecopters). The Sea Venom is to be extracted from its tomb in the Romney and placed in the main hangar. When the lightning is painted and fixed it will be positioned close to where the Canberra is now with its tail towards the fence thus shielding the canopy from gun shots…! As usual, the problem is of space.

Can you take that last pic and clearly pu on it the location of where the kids are throwing stuff from etc? Prority would be to get her moved from there asap or even move her a bit further in so that she is not as close to the fence??
Has that centre window panel been breeched right through? Also next time your inside her, any chance of moving her throttle levers back to idle cutoff as they look silly being pushed forward?

Exactly what we need to do. Immediately in front of where she is, there is a large area of grass which is Vulcan sized. trouble is, it needs a mountain of concrete laid over it..

And, yes. I’ll be in her this week, probably sunday, so yes, everything will be put back as it should be. Damn kids…..;)

None of the windows have been breeched, although some are close. If only we could get replacement glass all round. The vandals have even managed to smash the upper periscope glass…… There is a small leak around the cockpit fairing, so this is the first job, followed by the spar corrosion. Just remember, that she looks bloody awfull from the outside, but she is sound inside!

Yes, shocking, but if you bothered to read the previous 3 pages, you will know that we have her best intentions at heart now. For many years, the museum has fought bitterly to get where it is now. They have had their site developed into a car factory, and since then have had to buy new buildings, displays, and maintain the more significant aircraft in the collection. Only now is it possible to turn our attentions to the vulcan. Not much you can do when you have more vandals than volunteers, no money at all, and no one knows you exist. We have hit rock bottom, and are now coming back fighting. Please see the photos of the ONLY F86D in the country preserved and restored….

If it bothers you that much to see 319 looking so unwell come and help!!!!!!!

Partially being the correct word here. That link shows a good photo. You can see the rather interesting green, brown, grey and rust upper surface scheme. During the repaint, corrosion was discovered on the spar caps, and this (as well as a lack of paint) stopped work. Work is going to re-start. This week.

thats not so good….. I’m sure it will only be tempory… Both the lightning and F100 will be stood on at least a gravel base, not on grass……..I’ll have a word.

First and foremost, we need to stop the thing crumbling into the ground. A tanker conversion would be pretty expensive to retrofit, and difficult to get right. A good idea, but we have more pressing issues to deal with first.

Ok, this is where I get kicked out of the aircraft industry completely (I’ve already got my coat, I’m at the coat hooks, and heading for the door…..)

Ormond Haydon-Ballie is a name that I have heard spoken in revered tones. What did he do? Who was he and why is he so important to historic aviation? Just for the record, it states above that he met a most tragic end in 1977, but I was not born til 1978…… I only ask because I don’t know. Sorry…..:o

Well……. hopefully. We are chasing a number of sources for main undercarriage leg doors – ours are a touch frilly…. Sponsorship is being sought for the paint. The initial plan is to get a nice protective coat on her, (post skin repairs) in the same colours as the is now – the camo upper and light grey underside. I for one, hope that once she has a roof over her, then an anti flash white scheme can be applied. But that’s just my preference!

It may be possible that we will be disposing of our Vampire T11 in the near future – currently we have a Sea Venom and a Vampire FB5 on the site, so the T11 may be surplus to requirements.

The DH Dove is going to be placed in the storage hangar on sunday, which will free up considerable space in the main hangar. Doves are a bit bigger than you would think!

In a sad reversal of fortune, the F100 and the Lightning are moving outside. The Lightning is to be painted and the fin fitted before it does, but I’m not sure of the F100. Don’t worry too much – both airframes will be completely sealed before seeing the typical Northern weather.

Alot depends on getting some ISO containers for use as our stores. We have the former entrance building as a store for now, but we would like to open it back up to the public possibly containing the engine collection and the Wreckology items.

Oh, and Peter, I can’t claim that I’m doing all of this – I’m just a volunteer. The work that goes on behind the scenes is just as important as the people who make things look nice, if not more so. Everyone there pulls their weight (in some cases, thats alot of weight! 😉 ) I’ll get me coat
