Duxford wasn’t a bomber airfield ! Maybe Duxford should dismantle theirs and transport it to deepest Lincolnshire instead !

You beat me to it David, Bomber county should have the gathering of Lancs. I don’t see why duxford thinks they’re so bloody important. Look at the Shack! Not a good advert. Get your heads out of your backside Duxford, you’re sitting on your laurels and the rest of the country is passing you by……

What you have to realise is, not all restorations are carried out at Duxford – ie ARC, TFC etc. there’s more to the world of historic aviation than bloody Duxford.

, and potentially damaging to the organisation in question.

Duxford is damaging its self. It doesn’t need help from outside,,,,,,,,,,

Is that the 2nd time the F15 has been refurbished? Surely the replica Mustang would be be suitable outside the AAM?

Be nice if they spent some time n effort on the Shack. That’s never been repaired since big storm. But hey – All hail the mighty IWM ,,,,,,,,,,,!!!!!!!

Bruce, I also offered my time to a local ATC but when I offered to give aeroplane related talks, talk about our Spitfire and bring the Merlin in, the senior people involved had no interest at all. They only wanted to talk about guns marching and other trivia!!! Then they wondered why numbers were falling. I pointed out “Air training corps” I was basically told not to come back. So, the kids lost out!!!
So, no one can say I didn’t try, as for risk assessments,,, I gave them
All I had for the Merlin, insurance the lot. They then wanted to know about noise levels. I said – it’s loud and powerful – then left.
Like I said, there loss, I won’t offer again.

Some of you good folks on here know me, know of me, some know me personally. Andy in Beds is one. I’m not sure if he met my son? But, said son now volunteers with us during his school holidays. He’s keen and loves getting stuck in. He and his twin sister also help keep our Merlin engine going and both run it with confidence, under supervision obviously before someone leaps in. You can’t force them to do it, but if they want to, nurture and encourage. The trouble with a lot of these institutions now, is in my opinion, they seem to think that unless you have a degree or an equivilant qualification you can’t do the job!!! Bull****!!! It’s natural ability and enthusiasm that’s channelled properly. Don’t knock it out of em.

I’ve known Andy in Beds for many a year and he’s a good bloke and always helpful. Like me, he speaks his mind. Some don’t like it, but, I’ll not change and I doubt Andy will either. It takes all sorts to make a world. Just get on with it take the rough with the smooth.

Well I have and still do. When on BBMF and when with TFC. I also work with Bill Richards on his ground running 58 with the WWII Aero engine society.

Thanks for that, yes I have. I’m just saddened that I can’t find any official records. I’ll keep looking. I just don’t want his name or memory to fade. A fine pilot with 30 confirmed kills and 3 shared has to have recognition.
