Great work (the restoration and the film that is!)
love the wide shot from the rear
Celebratory beer tonight – well done everyone concerned!
It has been said before but I will repeat from my view point
If I give to a charity I give because I WANT TO – those who have given to 558 have done so beacuse they want to see her fly. If they wanted to give to Sally B or the Shuttleworth collection as well/instead that is up to them.
It doesn’t make sense to say 558 is taking money from other projects when people have a chioce of where they donate to
Agreed.
I can only speak for myself but in my case none.
The money I have given to XH558 hasn’t been given to them instead of donating it elsewhere. I don’t start the year with a charity budget to share around the world of historic aviation. I give to the project that I most want to see fly and you know what? In this case it has worked.
What woud Jack Cook make of all this?
Ps. Post your Spitfire photos here and turn this thread into something useful!
Yak 52 G-YOTS was in at Biggin last Sunday
Apologies for going slightly (only ever so!) off topic, but what’s the ID of the Spitfire discovered by PPS in the galleries section? It looks like a XIV or an 18, going by the propeller hub in the first image….
I’m leaning towards MKXIV… maybe RM694?

one in the eye for the high-viz brigade
I suppose there isn’t space for it in the AAM?
“Composite”, “Original”, “With provenance”, “Without provenance”, does it really matter.?
From an atomic or even sub-atomic, and therefore fundamental, point of view no object retains the original matter it was comprised of as matter and energy are in constant flux, ever changing and exchanging with the world around them.
I’m starting to believe that the notion of originality is entirely academic.
After The Battle magazine did a lengthly and very detailed piece on the death of General Sikorsky many years ago. I’ve got it if anyone want’s info from it.
Done
Best of luck!
