This map mostly agrees with the previous one, except they’ve left blank patches in the middle of ISIS territory and used a more feint grey to make the situation appear less dire.:stupid:

Does anyone have information on the canopy treatment difference?

I did read in the July 2015 issue of Combat Aircraft (page 34) that they were currently limited to ‘Mach 1.5’ because of canopy glazing issues, so maybe the treatment fixed that.

Thanks , I assume the white is the Assad Forces.

Its seems ISIS is in control of more than half of Syria now , Thats pretty much mind boggling

You’d think that given how little the FSA control, they’d just call it a day and pitch in with Assad to save the country from ISIS.

    The Grey is ISIS.

The green “Al-Nusra”- so they just lumped all the anti-Syrian government forces right there and called it a day.

    Purple is Islamic Front.

The FSA is in the light blue 😀 .

So to all intents and purposes it’s really Assad vs ISIS and Al Nusra, since none of the other players are significant enough to warrant consideration. is the bit in the middle of ISIS territory FSA or just a lake? It’s a lake, just looked at a map.

I know that JDAM is the “new kid on the block” and promises greater effectiveness in many scenarios than laser-guided bombs, but aren’t there some situations where Paveway would be preferred to JDAM? One that comes to mind is where visual confirmation is required, or an attack on a moving target. I know JDAM can be dropped through cloud cover, smoke, etc.. and would be preferred over a laser guided munition in such a case.

Well actually, the latest Paveways do have GPS too and LJDAM also has laser designation too.

Are you talking about a partition of Syria?

I´ve read that someone proposed to create alwaite, sunni, kurdish, cristhian and druze states.

But the biggest question would be: Who gets the Golan Heights? Israel of course. That would be hard to sell in the arab world. Someone would have to take the blame for it and would be a pariah in the region.

I’ve always thought that Israel would never just stop at Palestine.

Can they just divide the nation into area they hold , its unlikely even if some one comes to power they can unite back the Alwaite , Sunni and Shia and Kurds to stay together.

Looks like a far bigger and deeper mess than Libya.

The first thing they need to do is stop actually supplying the insurgents. You can’t put out a fire with petrol.

If Assad is suppose to have no role then who would be the compromise candidate acceptable to all in Syria ?

There isn’t one really. Turkey isn’t happy to see Kurdish gains and Saudi Arabia is happy to see a terrorist in power as long as they’re Sunni. The real question is what other entity besides Assad has the apparatus in place for government?

I don’t know, what drone this is, but it is to small for Orlan-10 drone and there is a good question if this small drone have enough range to fly from Russian base to Turkey. It could be Syrian army drone or terrorist drone. This could as well be an Ukrainian drone, which crash in Ukraine, but is shown as Russian drone. Considering how much Ukrainian side lie and tell fairy tells, everything is possible.

The problem is though, the damage is more consistent with a rough landing than being hit by an AAM or SAM, i.e. it’s wings are largely intact.

    This is the downed UAV;

its exact same aircraft type as the Ukrainians shot down a year ago (picture below), so its probably Russian.

40mm Missile Extends Grenade Launcher’s Range Beyond 2,000 Meters | Defense Update:

Raytheon Company successfully fired two Pike 40 mm precision-guided munitions from a standard tube grenade launcher during flight tests at Mile High Resources in Texas. Both rounds landed within the targeted impact area after flying more than 2,300 yards. (2.1 km). Weighing less than two pounds and measuring just 16.8 inches (42.6 cm) in length, Pike can be fired from a conventional, single-shot grenade launcher such as the M320 orEGLM (Enhanced Grenade Launching Module). The maximum range of M320 grenade launcher is 437 Yards (350 meters).

Pike uses a digital, semi-active laser seeker to engage both fixed and slow-moving, mid-range targets. The missile’s rocket motor ignites eight to 10 feet after launch and is nearly smokeless for reduced launch signature. Photo: Raytheon
“Pike uses a digital, semi-active laser seeker to engage both fixed and slow-moving, mid-range targets,” said J. R. Smith, Raytheon’s Advanced Land Warfare Systems director. “This new guided munition can provide the warfighter with precision, extended-range capability never before seen in a hand-held weapon on the battlefield. Pike will become smarter and smarter as we continue to develop its capabilities,” said Smith. “In the current configuration, the warfighter will enter programmable laser codes prior to loading Pike into its launcher. Spiral development calls for multiple-round simultaneous programming and targeting with data link capabilities.”

Pike’s rocket motor ignites eight to 10 feet after launch and is nearly smokeless for reduced launch signature.

Additional Pike upgrades include the ability to fire it from platform-mounted launchers on small boats, all-terrain vehicles and small unmanned aircraft systems. The missile will extend the effective range of grenade launchers currently reaching 1,600 yards (1.5 km) using ballistic computing sights.

Yes it did veer of course – and yes it did ignore all radio calls – because they never received any.

Well I guess their comms equipment went down with their navigation equipment.

Soviet air defence forces also shot down an Aeroflot Tu-104 in 1962 and a Korean Airlines Boeing 707 in 1978.

The one in 1978 was not shot down and it again veered off course and did not respond, which is a long way different from just shooting airliners out of the sky for no apparent reason in peacetime in 2001.
