Other than this is the Historic Aviation Forum? 🙂

It is historic in a way because Thorium is/was used in jet engine construction and missile fuselages

Its not negative -its pointing out that many North and North West enthusiasts are going to find it expensive in fuel !That will be off putting to some!

Yes but that was the case for Shoreham too, dealers/buyers from the North and North West still turned up though. Using Google Maps, Shoreham is 18 minutes and 23 miles nearer to Manchester than Brenzett, not really significant. Newark is much closer to people in the North and North West but very few dealers go there. So I don’t think that distance plays that big a part in deciding whether to attend.

Its about time the value of these aircraft went up. Not to long ago a complete Lightning could be purchased for less than the scrap value. Now however with prices going up the scrap man wont (perhaps) be so keen, so more should be saved…..hopefully!

    Not sure about that.

As I recall, aircraft usede to go for less than their scrap value because they were mixed metals and the cost of separating the metals to convert them into ingots was relatively high. With a couple of exceptions, scrap dealers were sympathetic to museums and collectors, if you approached them politely you could usually purchase the entire aircraft for not much more than was originally paid. I know the scrapping of the Javelins from Stafford and West Raynham was considerably delayed to give Museums time to collect them but in both cases the interested museum(s) couldn’t/didn’t get their act together and the aircraft were cut up.

Now that they go to preferred aircraft dealers no one can afford the asking prices so, as mentioned above, they sit rotting away in a field. So less aircraft enter preservation than before.

Hopefully next years event will have a bit more in the way of aircraft exhibits “& maybe an aerojumble stall or 2 ?”.

    Bob T.

If you contact Alf Tupper I’m sure he’ll help you to increase the number of exhibits and Aerojumble stalls. 😀

Not sure the location is going to attract enormous crowds ! Maybe a few more visitors from the continent!

Don’t be so negative. It’s a good museum in one of the nicest parts of Kent.

everything GOKONE said was true, except the bit about my breath, I’m sure it was fiercer than that.

” you behaved disgracefully on the Saturday night with the extra cider” Guilty as charged

“we probably overdid it a bit in the bar later ” we did but you were a lightweight on the beer.

“it seemed right at the time ” It was

“while it would have been rude of us not to have stayed for Annie’s show!” It would have been a disaster if we’d missed it. She was also to be seen hanging out of a window in the ruined café (see photos) waving a sten gun.

“we had the real stuff ” We certainly did and I was still paying for it on Monday

“The Jive Aces were a top act ” They were, especially when two of them simultaneously played the piano.

“it will be good to see more cockpiteers there next year” This is very true. There was a huge amount of interest in the aviation side of things and there’s plenty of room. You have to feed yourself, no hog roast I’m afraid, but the atmosphere is good and the entertainment is free. My branch of IPMS is already planning next years trip. Although they’re on the better side of the river it’s still local but they’re going to stay two nights and form some sort of encampment.

So start preparing now and join us in 2015.

I’m not the worlds best photographer and the light wasn’t always that great but you’ll have an idea of what it was like. Starts with the beer tent then military stuff, don’t try to understand it because everyone mixed in with each other at some time. In some photos there’s a mix of 20th and 21st centuries with cowboys and medieval. Then it’s stuff for sale, people and aviation.

Questions welcome, preferably on the backs of used fivers. Could be fifties but I’m not greedy.

It went very well. Even the Portaloos were reasonable all weekend.

I should have some photos on Picasaweb tonight, I’ll put a link to them on this thread.

I was there and have the photos but I was too tired when I arrived home last night to do anything with them.

I would echo what Stuart said, it was a brilliant event that unlike War and Peace doesn’t take itself too seriously. On Saturday evening, after the paying public had left, there was a surprise attack on Spearfish Creek, the cowboy encampment, by Waffen SS, Russian WW2 infantry and modern British soldiers in desert clothing. The attack was repulsed due to superior intelligence and weaponry. The cowboys knew they were coming and had two cannon, the best the opposition could manage were .5 machine guns. The cannon were amazing. Even though there was no projectile, or even wadding, the recoil sent them back about a foot and the shockwave travelled at least 100yards to the marquee I was located in.

The air show was short but very entertaining. I didn’t see any of the planned battles but the static displays were well thought out. They may not take themselves seriously but they do take accuracy very seriously. It was odd seeing an SS officer walking along with modern Russian and British soldiers, there was a bombed out café used by the French Resistance, a medieval camp site.

The entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings was free and the cider was lethal. Friday was a DJ playing good music, no rap or similar modern stuff and a live singer, Annie Andrews I think. Saturday was the Jive Aces.

GOKONE and I are booked in for next year, I think Stuart and Mike are going next year. It would be good to see more aviation content but if not we’ll still have a good time at an excellent event.

I was bumped from cattle class to first class on a flight from Thiruvanantapuram to Dubai, no idea why but I was very grateful. That said, I didn’t find it that much better than cattle class and the seat/couch hurt the back of my legs. Service in both classes is exemplary, I’m quite hapy with the food in cattle class and I don’t need an endless supply of booze. The screen was too far away for me to see properly.

The crime was unsuccessful !!! He didn’t get away with it!

If they didn’t recover the money he made then he got away with it. Prison or fines are just a cost of doing business to these people.

    Where are ebay located?

If it’s within the EU then complaints using the proceeds of Crime Legislation should attract someone’s attention because the company secretary or chairman can go to jail on that one. They’re knowingly permitting fraud to take place to the point of collusion, even with different account names the IP address is normally the same.

Usual high forum participation I see……

    Agreed

This sort of thing fills me with despair. The Essex lot are really enthusiastic about having a greater aviation content and it’s probably the best opportunity we will ever have to draw attention to, and promote, what we do in all its forms and yet there’s hardly anyone willing to commit.

A lot of people say that Cockpitfest is too far north to attend, this isn’t so where are you?
