I can see the attraction of using Easter but can’t we have an event that’s not on a day when we are meant to be with the families that suffer our absences on other weekends?

It’s been said in this thread and other discussions about Bomber Commend that there was no campaign medal.

What was the Aircrew Europe star if it wasn’t a campaign medal for Bomber Command, especially with the France and Germany bar?

Re the Memorial, they have one now but don’t forget it wasn’t that long ago that the Battle of Britain memorial was built, my daughter was part of the guard of honour at the unveiling.

I don’t believe that all these comparisons between the fighter crews and bomber crews recognition are appropriate and they often just cloud the issues.

I was at Marham today looking at an operational SARBE Mk7 so they’re still around.

According to an AP I have but can’t find,The Beacon only SARBEs, Mks 1 and 2 were used by all RAF aircrew, not just operational. The MK3 with the speech facility was used by the Fleet Air Arm and some RAF aircrew in special circumstances. I believe they were also used by the SAS. I haven’t seen a Mk4 or Mk6 SARBE but the Mk5 and Mk7 have a speech facility built into to a single unit as opposed to the two units in a Mk3. There is also the Pye PLB which I think is still in use by the RAF but I’m not certain on that one.

The predecessor to SARBE was SARAH (Search And Rescue And Homing) made by Ultra Electronics. Great big heavy thing, the transmitter, aerial and battery were separate units.

Twin Otter, I think, back and fore over South East London afternoon of 20th. Seemed to be a search pattern but there’s nothing worth looking for. Any ideas?

As far as I’m concerned, bones should be treated the same whether they’ve been buried for 1,000 years or 5 years. I don’t see that time makes a difference. Granted, it may not be nice for close relatives to see them being posed with but that aside these things need recording.

Unlike a certain Royal’s body but that’s another thread on another forum.

Be very happy to see the V2 in the RE museum but it’s stuffed full, where are they going to put the rocket?

While I’m on, the Museum is well worth a visit. Very interesting and well laid out displays, a Harrier and lots of tanky type things outside. A lot of aviation Museums could learn from it

Whatever it is that supposedly happened.

Could you perhaps give a hint rather than just post blind unexplained links?

That’s the second time I’ve seen that comment today. In both cases I’d already looked at the links and had no difficulty in understanding what the issue was.

Pay attention you in the corner!

This is the same issue as with the pennants painted on RAF aircraft. The pennant should always be painted using the same logic but so often with triangular pennants the point is facing forwards.

What happened to the Test Pilot memorial supported by Aeroplane? Was any money collected? Was it completed?

Grand Slam, and many other large bombs, was dropped at Ashley Walk Bombing range in the New Forest.

As far as I’m aware there’s nothing visible there now.

Agree that no comment is being requested unless it is to say “I have one of those” or alternatively “I’ll have one of those”.

    Having said that, comments follow.

The incomplete Type 5/17 compass pictured is a complete type P3 as fitted to the Bulldog, the Bristol one.

I have a photo of an original spade grip with button but new cording, if I can find it and scan it I’ll post it.

    CURRENTLY READING

    Learn Malayalam in a month.

Bit of misrepresentation there, been reading it for nearly a year, still can’t hold a conversation.

I can ask for a cup of tea and tell a dog to go away though.
