You’ve only to go forward a litttle to see how it went.

Angel Interceptors crewed by women only. Rumours that Captain Black operated a selection couch and that’s how Destiny Angel gained her wings, and in the process starting the war with the mysterons by banging the attack button with her bum, are not believed to be true, the strings would have become tangled.

If both events were on the same day they might complement each other but not many buyers can afford overnight accommodation to attend both, any advantage to the sellers would be marginal.

I often used to go to Airshows with my Father and see RR299 flying. It was a whilebefore I realised the very last entry in his log book was RR299, he navigated the air test following delivery to 114 Squadron in Aden. I managed to have him reunited with RR299 at Marham, a Families Day or the Flight Refuelling Anniversary show. Since then, every time I’ve seen a mention of the location of RR299 in 1946 not being certain I’ve pointed out that I have the log book entry but no one ever takes any notice.

Medal collectors I know have always said that the Air Crew Europe star was solely for Bomber Command. Open to correction on this but it was told to me by a lot of very knowledgable people.

if you want to go into the bush buy a land rover , if you want to come out again buy a land cruiser !!

I spent two weeks being driven round South Indian minor roads and jungle/forest in a Mahindra 4×4/people mover thing. Coped with everything, no problem, even the flooding ( I did warn them I’d bring rain with me). Only thing that didn’t work was the USB port but that was Japanese. Their Ambassador cars are a copy of an engish car from the fifties, still being made and they last forever or until an elephant sits on them.

Very open to correction but did he not also own a complete Lightning F3 at Tees Side Airport?

While I’m on, what about all the items other than airframes he owns? He has a substantial collection of small airframe parts and related items, some of which deserve saving, someone (BAPC?) should be trying to ensure that nothing important is lost. The Police will have confiscated some items, they need to be viewed and an approach to Ken could be made about anything else, we’d need his permission anyway or it would be trespass and theft or even breaking and entering. He might say push off he might not but if he isn’t asked no one will ever know.

Before anyone mentions putting money where mouth is, I’m in London, said stuff is in Yorkshire and I don’t drive. I would be willing to help if labouring or humping is needed and someone gives me a lift at least a good part of the way.

The problem is that they think collectors and museums have bottomless pits of money, same as the expensive bloke on evilbay.

Pricing is completely unrealistic then these sellers accuse us of being tight when we don’t rush to buy the things.

Quote: Coltishall is within commuting distance of Norwich or Cromer. All it would need to make it more suitable for pensioners is a small supermarket and a bingo hall.

I’m a pensioner and almost the last thing I want is a Bingo Hall. Nor do I want any of those patronising books like computing for seniors. Nor would I want to live in an old airfield married quarters with a pile of old people because the cost of commuting to anywhere worthwhile would be too great and I don’t like ghettos, although according to local yoof I live in one now.

I want to live next to an active airfield near the south coast with a bunch of people of all ages.
