Quote: Coltishall is within commuting distance of Norwich or Cromer. All it would nee

I’m a pensioner and almost the last thing I want is a Bingo Hall. Nor do I want any of those patronising books like computing for seniors. Nor would I want to live in an old airfield married quarters with a pile of old people because the cost of commuting to anywhere worthwhile would be too great and I don’t like ghettos, although according to local yoof I live in one now.

I want to live next to an active airfield near the south coast with a bunch of people of all ages.

    Spitfire P8088/G-CGRM auction 18Feb2012

I was the fortunate recipient of a number of original skins, firewall parts and spars discarded during the restoration of an aircraft that is now flying, almost the entire set from tail joint to firewall. I have a number of other original parts from other aircraft and all will eventually be put together to form a static fuselage with a lot of one wing, arthritis permitting.

The owner of the flying aircraft obtained my address and demanded that the skins etc. were sent to him. I had paid money for them in a legal transaction and wasn’t willing to just pass them on, I wanted something in exchange, not necessarily cash. I’m told I was being far too reasonable with my request but it was turned down anyway. I then received a very strongly worded letter, to the point of being rude, telling me exactly what I could and couldn’t do with the skins.

I didn’t respond but having received a letter like my thoughts were that I would do what I bloody liked with the skins provided it wasn’t illegal, imoral and was no more than slightly fattening. I certainly wasn’t going to claim that the incorporation of a few skins made my static the original aircraft and I resented the implication that I would.

    cockpitfest 2012

I’ve noticed that the cockpitfest name is being abbereviated in some quarters to “the fest”,

If that’s the case should exhibitors be called festers and the act of exhibiting called festering?

If everything in a cockpit functions, within the realms of safety, would that be called festering with a running nose?

Sorry, just a thought and it is late.

I suspect that now the collection is no longer required as evidence the Police will dump the lot in St Georges Channel or somewhere similar. This would be a pity as some of the collection is unique and historically significant. Perhaps if one or more accredited Museums bypassed the committee process, got their bums in gear very quickly and approached the police the important bits might be saved.

    Gun Hobby

There’s been a lot of discussion in this thread about the correlation between gun ownership and crime in the US and UK, what about Switzerland where almost evey make over 18 is required by law to posses a firearm, one that is provided by the state and designed to kill. Some of these firearms are fully automatic. We don’t hear about massive crime in that country. I belive that the laws on continental europe are also much less restrictive but again we don’t hear about higher levels of armed crime there either.

I will declare an interest. I live in South East London and more than once my wife and I have had to dodge people who were carrying illegal guns theat were later used to injure people. I was also caught up in the riots in Croydon. Anything that stops that is welcome but I don’t see how barring responsible people from legally owning firearms is going to do that.

There’s been a lot of the history of the CDT in this thread but what about the future, any plans? It looks like it would make a good exhibit in a museum, the interior would be accessible without having to climb fifteen feet. It’s a shame for it to be hidden away.
