Import wish.
Be nice to see a Norseman here. Maybe one day eh.

Award.
It was a nightmare but very eye-opening.
Hi Lind’ys Lad,
Well I think it was worth at the very least, a “Blue Peter badge” for all the
hard work by the staff involved at Coventry.
Regards, JJ.
Gatow site info
Hi JJ,
look at this site:http://www.airventure.de/gatow.htm.
Gatow is very worth a visit!:Dcheers Andy
Hi Andy,
Many thanks for ointing me to the Gatow site, looks like we will be there for
some hours.
Thanks again, Gary, JJ.
Historic Aviation award.
Hi Peter,
Here’s my three worthy causes.
The Cranfield Lightning T.5 XS458 crew for the go in them to maintain this
aircraft to fast-run status, working in all weathers tinkering with it to get
it in ‘ready’ mode whenever its called on to set car-alarms off.
The team all pull together to operate to a high standard and they all seem to
get on really well together and seem a happy bunch. Well-done Lads.
Next, the major strip-down of BBMF Lancaster at Coventry during the winter months to a knock-out standard that will allow us all to watch it for many more hours to come.
Last, The Team at The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby
for the presentation of the events this year like the Roy Chadwick 60th bash.
It gets my vote because of how informal the day is. Although controlled well
with regard to saftey standards the public are very happy to not be barked at. Long may it carry on.

Gatow info
Hi Aerovet,
Many thanks for the info with regard to the Me 109 and Me 163 at the museum at Gatow. It sounds like we will have a good visit.
Many thanks, JJ.
Falmouth He 111
I hope this is the right forum and if so can anyone help please ?
Trying to locate information on a HE-111 which came down over Falmouth 24/25 June 1942. There was at least one survivor.
Any information or suggestions as to where to seek information appreciated.
Hi there Flyingphysio,
Just a thought, does the German War Cemetry at Cannock Chase keep a listing of who, where and why ? I know its a long shot but most Germans who
lost their lives over here are there, Maybe they have a Website. Or wait for
one our experts to come up with something, like they do.

Windy City Mamma info
Hi T-21,
Many thanks for that info, its mint. Thank you for all your efforts which
showed that its not off the Coast but inland.
Cheers for that,
JJ.
Mustang info
Hi T-21,
Many thanks for the info with regard to the Mustang question I asked for.
I can make a start sorting things out now. The Report came from a set of
reports about crashes in the Denmark area of operations and thats where
“Windy City Mama” was noted in the reports, which also went on about RAF
Mustang C version crashes around the Herning area.
Thank you T-21.
What ever happened to the Queens Flight Wessex helicopters after demob?
Your time and trouble appreciated.
Be lucky
David
Hi there,
Is one of the Royal Wessex egg-beaters in the RAF Museum at Hendon, or
did I only thought I saw one.
Cheers JJ.
Coleby Tower project.
Would be a good basis for a restoration project and mini museum? She still looks pretty sound really??
Hi Peter,
Be nice if a gang could get together and make it viewable with a museum
re-living the past of the fallen and those who where based there still
living, if only to say thank you for their efforts whilst they were there on
active service. Maybe the CITB at Bircham Newton could get involved by
Tec-advice and Baby-Brikkies or are they all still in East Germany ? and
why we are on the subject of labour, what about the artists that have
sprayed the back wall in pinkish over-tones. I being a painter and having
an aviation- minded boss would give it a lick of paint. All you need now
is maybe grant money from maybe the Tourist kitty or Lotto people and
maybe other groups already set up could help out with advice and come
together as a team.
Ring the producers up at Most Haunted, maybe they can get rid of the
ghosts by sending the blonde presenter who screams at one of the
crew breaking-wind.
Just a thought, JJ.

HS 125 Cockpit.
A little off-topic I know but if anyone can help me – it’s bound to be one of you guys!
I’m using parts from an old HS125 to build a simulator cockpit for use by my local university and would appreciate any cockpit photo’s – especially those showing things like the side walls/consoles and the seat mountings.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Roy.
Hi just a thought, why not nip to RAF Museum cosford and tell them what you
want, and maybe they will let you take your box-brownie in the cockpit of the
one they have in the Cold-War Hall ? Maybe offer a Bob or two in the kitty.
Cheers JJ.
Cossie-Mossie-
I’ve just finished watching the excellent new DVD about the BBMF’S 50th Anniversary and was curious about a comment made by Al Pinner.
He’s talking to the Doolittle veterans at Duxford last year about the aircraft in the flight and one gentleman asks, ‘no Mosquito?’ Al Pinner then says,’no sir we were going to get one about 10 years ago but unfortunately the aircraft crashed’………. News to me, think it would have happened?
Great DVD though, highly recommended.
Hi there, I heard that the Mossie at Cosford was once considered for giving
to the BBMF, but I never heard any more of it. Maybe the glue issue was
again at the front of the problem. Now before things start, I heard it from
a member of the public who was at the airshow at Elvington this year, who
know when it tried to rain on the Sunday and we, yes “we” were drying out
in the YAM main hanger in front of their fab “wooden-wonder”.

Channel Island crashes.
I have recently returned from a two week stay on the Channel Islands and found the wartime history of the Islands during the second world war breathtaking.
What I am interested in though is did any aircraft crash on the Islands during WW2 and what became of any pilots who may have landed there after bailing out?
Hi there,
I heard from a local that a FAA pilot ditched his Corsair off Lihou Island
made to the shore and gave himself up to the Germans at low tide.
The Hellcat engine is at the Occupation museum along with an B-26 radial.
The Fw 190 bits came from the North shore on Herm Island and I was told
that a He 111 lies between Herm and the adjoining Island. A Me 109 was
just off the runway at Aldeney and lies of the beach. The Lanc and B-17
are off Lancresse beach.
Hope this helps, JJ.
Lancaster pilot photo.
Hi Peter,
In the mess at RAF Syerston there is a picture that I’m sure was taken during
1943 of a Lancaster with squadron members all over it. I wonder if its worth
making contact with the resident Glider school which as a web site, and ask them to take a butchers at the sphoto to see if the names are below. I know
its a long shot, but hey whats the alternative ? Stricly Come Dancing.
Cheers JJ.
Cany anyone help? A friend is updating their info on a loss of this Lancaster and her crew and they are looking for a photo of the Pilot Thomas Herbert Warne
The aircraft was Lancaster W4270 of 61 Sqn which flew out of Syerston on the 18th Feb 1943. The Pilot’s was called Thomas Herbert Warne, a canadian, aged 23 from Kennedy, Saskatchewan. His service number is R/102085,
W/O 2 T H Warne RCAF (Sgt at the time)
Sgt R J Preece
Sgt J Coaker
Sgt E J Loverock
Sgt J M Milton Whitehead
Sgt T R Newton
Sgt G A HitchonW4270 had an engine fire while on a training flight and crashed while near RAF Bottesford with the loss of all seven crewmen. It looks like they were a new crew for 61 Sqn and were training ready to start operations. Thomas Warne is buried in Newark-upon-trent cemetery,
ME 109 UPDATE.
fantastic progress being made on this bird. Engine runs due soon:
Hi there markstringer,
Great update and given me and the gang going from EMA to the Berlin
Airshow in May a hope that it may be there if only static. They really have
done wonders with this bird. You bend em, we mend em springs to mind.
Cheers JJ.
