This may hark back to the old days of “Reds under the bed” but I think it is family and friends duty to inform on any one who shows tendencies to commit acts of terror either through mental illness or indoctrination.
This was a hard decision for me as one of my Stepsons has schizophrenia and was not taking his tablets and he wanted to stab two girls across the road from his flat. A lot of his threats were idle and I ignored them. This time it was different as he had bought a large hunting knife to do it with. I phoned the Police who arrested him and he was put in a secure unit for three months and the help he got was for once excellent. He is now stable and takes his medication as prescribed and is a well adjusted smart intelligent man of 50 . If he hears the “voices” he is to ring me at any time. I had a couple in the middle of the night about 2 years ago but nothing now. If he makes threats I would ring the Police again without hesitation. The mental health system in this country is a shambles,My wife and I had him live with us from 1996-2000(we lived in fear most of the time) and we got him a Social worker,Community health worker, Occupational therapist, Physiologist and a Psychiatrist at one time. All those have gradually been cut and his only fallback is his GP now. So I hope things will be OK for the future but there are many out there who I am afraid because of lack of support or any one picking up on a serious problem will not might commit acts like we have seen on the continent.
BTW he wanted to kill the girls because he could hear their music! He likes his own music and has recently bought five synthesizers and a guitar at the cost of £10,000 and is happy playing his own music through earphones Five is a bit odd to me but if it keeps him sane so be it!
