if the friendly fire bit is accurate, I don’t blame the gunner. Considering the circumstances, shoot first, ask questions later would seem the best option.

Had he held his fire and it turned out to be a German night fighter, an entire Lanc crew is dead. I have to imagine there would have been better ways to tail a friendly bomber then by pulling up behind it close enough to get shot, in particular at night.

Exactly the point I was going to make! If this was what happened I think Gibson and his crew member would have been instrumental in causing this incident, not the poor bl**dy gunner who lived with this on his conscious for the rest of his life.

Now that has pictures of the French Jaguar Marine taking of and landing on a carrier.(#38)

Well that is something I never knew(perhaps I am the only one ignorant of that fact!)

Jaguars landing on Motorways in a thread this week and now this. What else has it done?

Sorry its drifting away from the original topic but it is aircraft landing on carriers!:)

Thankyou Peter I did a search with the title above and key publishing and nothing came back from google! Is it politic to ask if the search function will ever work again?

Well that does not worry me:D

    Still back to your previous.

“Enforcing speed limits? What are speed cameras for if not for enforcing speed limits?”

Fine if you are generally law abiding, but there are alot of what I believe are called “community cars” about which have been bought for about £200 and have no registered keeper and tend to be used by the dregs of society with no docs or licence. They need stopping and crushed(I would like to see the drivers crushed with them but that is possibly a step to far:D)

“Police officers regularly enforce the speed whenever and wherever they can.”

Agreed but more resorces are needed to do this that is why I say Motoring fines should not go to the Government but The local Police Authority to cover this.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol is the cause for 1 in 6 road deaths each year (~3000 people on the roads per year).

    * Statistics also show that using a mobile phone whilst driving actually has more of an effect on your reaction times and recovery times than driving under the influence of alcohol”

I am not sure that I agree other than to say that both have an adverse effect on your ability to respond to a situation rapidly

“Driving is all about risk assessment, If you’re a poor judge of risks then you’ll be a bad driver – simple”

Many years ago I took a course in Defensive Driving that was run by a retired Traffic Policeman. His first words to me were “Right Mr ***** Remember this if nothing else. Treat every other driver on the road as a Fecking idiot and always keep looking for an escape route if the worst happens! That was money will spent(or at least I remember his words!)

and yes I know you are not having a go at me.

    Just three points from me,

1 A speed limit is just that, A LIMIT NOT A TARGET. Road conditions should dictate what speed you drive at. There is a 30 limit outside our local shools. Would anyone advocate driving at 30MPH when the children are coming out? especially as vision is obscured by the fat munters of Mothers are parked all over the place including zig zags incase their little soldiers might get wet in their half a mile walk home.

2 I would like to see more Traffic Officers in unmarked cars enforcing speed limits, nicking those on mobile phones, not wearing seat belts, driving without due care and attention, excess alcohol and no tax, insurance and MOT. That could fund this instead of the fines going to central Government.

3 I have two cars both capable of 150mph+ and yes I would be lying if I said i have not drifted over the speed limit on occasions but it is a very small margin and not often. You will more than likely sitting in the nearside of the Motorway with cruise control on doing 56mph(which I believe is the most economical speed for most cars)

Why am I so strong about clamping down on motorists? Have you ever seen two young chilren dead in a car because of speed in an inapropriate place?
I have and that image will haunt me as long as I live!

I bet the Fire Service were a bit peed off that they could not use their “Jaws of Life” to cut the top off to extract anyone. Anyway anyone know how a third person got injured yet?
