Severodvinsk,
” you are damn correct, I noticed it too. The front with the torpedohatches looks completely off-center… Doesn’ tseem to fit with the hullpart behind it… PS? “
I am pretty sure that the image is photoshoped. As evidence for this the image I’m posting shows what looks like use of the “Heal Tool” (blue circle and magnification) and poor cut+paste or “Extract” work. The red circle and elipse show the difference in the way that the sea water connects with the hull on the port side and on the area around the torpedo tubes. To me this looks unmistakeably like clumsy photoshoping.
That’s not a conclusive evidence of photoshopping. The changes you describe can be attributed to the slight waves bobbing in the harbor. I’ve been to China quite a few times and I’m familiar with both the lighting and the water conditions in their harbors.
Photoshopping don’t cover a range of pictures each taken with a slightly different angle, with consistent lighting angles in every one of them to begin with.
The pics are too intricately busy for PS, too many wires around, birds flying around and so on.
Su-27SK or J-11 #30. A major find for watchers.
There is never a #30 before, since that number is used by a 2nd Division UBK, and recently by a former 3rd Division UBK. According to the WMF, #27 to #30 are now SKs (or J-11s). Previously, J-11s should number from #1 to #26 in the regs that were purely built on J-11s (1st, 6th and 7th Divsions). The other two planes appear to be a “0X” and a “1X”, which rules out 2nd Division. Previously my existing orbat theories which is #1 to #26 being SKs, #27 to #32 being UBKs. This kind of blows it away.
It is possible that the UBKs on the 1st, 6th and 7th (using the #27 to #30/32 number) may only be temporary assignments, and moved back to their original groups once they are replaced by late recieved J-11s; the UBKs only being for training pilots.
This picture has the J-11 in a darker blue, with the radome in contrast. Note that the characteristic cut out in the radome wasn’t painted.
My guess is that they shoehorned a J-8II’s radar into FC-1 01 for testing, although it won’t be the final radar. The KLJ-10 radar for the FC-1 is likely to be related to the KLJ-1 radar of the J-8II, like a much more evolved version of it, so it should perform from equal to superior, and would have similar sizes and weights.
It is nice to know that they are stress testing. Also note since September 2003, with only two prototypes, the planes have racked up over 300 flight hours of testing combined. That’s a fairly busy schedule for prototypes.
Those small subs look more like a DSRV, meant to rescue sub crews.
The yellow cone is not really an FC-1 prototype but the inlet cover for a J-7.
Note the servos for the radar on the FC-1 prototype.
Thanks SK! The Russian site does not appear to be friendly with my wireless access.
“Core” of the WS-10 Engine?
Probably not. Looks like the WS-9 instead for me.
I mean the first pic looks like a karaoke to me.
On the other pics, perhaps it’s engine trouble, with the dark smoke behind it. If this is tied with a recently published article, the plane in question could be Prototype 01, not the FC-1 01 as some people have said. This is probably old footage from that incident, which may have taken place years ago and is just being declassified. Probably part of the process of gradually declassifying the J-10, starting with the early mishaps (to show how brave, courageous and resourceful the people involved are in the face of adversity).
So, so…..now what are you waiting for……..tell us what they said on CCTV when showing that clip……
My Mandarin still needs a bit of work, but so far it looks like nationalistic karaoke to me.
Reasons why I think SRBMs are used is because I don’t think cruise missiles are in the jurisdiction of the increasingly politically powerful and well funded 2nd Artillery, which effectively acts like an independent branch of the PLA. Cruise missiles, other than the seaborne ones, are in the jurisdiction of the PLAAF, whose budget is squeezed doing other things.
You want the ones with the captions?
It kind of looks like it is CCTV’s. The buzzy tv interlacing pattern is consistent through out the picture. Note the smoky trail.
The download keeps timing out for me 🙁
Sorry for posting this a second time …. :diablo:
Thanks a lot for that overview … but can You tell me anything about the situation for the Short range IR missiles ???
1. PL-8 (looks like a Phython III copy) … usualy seen under the outer wing pylons on the J-10 … also for J-8II
2. PL-9 I’m not sure but seems to be based on the PL-8 with some modifications, esp. the rear end !?
3. is there a new project under development ??? … something in the class of the ASRAAM, MICA, IRIS-T … ???
Thanks in advance, Deino 🙂
Jane’s did report that China is working on a missile with digital IR.
This pic of the J-11 in Shenyang’s office hall shows you an unidentified missile in the wing tips.
