Any bets as to when first ground gets dug for Terminal 6 anyone :dev2: ?

and further down the road maybe Terminal 7 (provided there is enough land). If Gatwick and Manchester (before the building of the second runway) can manage one runway operations with two full terminals I am sure they will be able to squeeze an extra two in at Heathrow for an extra runway.
When Led Zep first came on the scene, I thought they were phenomenal and I would rather remember them as they were. My only regret is that I never saw them live when I could have done. I also had the chance to go to the IOW festival when Jimi Hendrix et al were playing but declined in favour of spotting at Heathrow and Northolt….sigh

I think it was G-ANLD which is registered to a Tiger Moth.
Best pictures and report I have seen on here for quite a while. Excellent.

A great pity. I used to buy it on the odd occasion as it used to publish articles and photos you would not normally find in other mags, particularly with regards to the historical point of view. I do tend to tire of reading the umpteenth article about the 787 etc etc in every magazine you open.
At Popham I have heard people wondering whether we get noise complaints yet you can hardly hear them ask over the niose of the traffic on the A303.
It makes me laugh when I hear people complain about commercial aircraft noise today. It is nothing compared to the racket you get living near a busy main road or a railway. There was something to complain about years ago. As I have mentioned previously I have stood on top of the flat I was living in in Edinburgh in the mid seventies and heard a Trident taking off seven or eight miles away.
Actually Hungerford Common is not bad for watching a bit of aviation activity. Apaches regularly come up from Middle Wallop and turn before heading back. Two came up recently and one of them gave a bit of an impromptu display. There are also regular flights to and from Boscombe Down, Low flying Hercs and Pumas, Lynx, Merlin, Chinook and I was fortunate enough to see a DC 3 (in I think the D Day colours) recently.
Hmmmm ok well I guess it wasn’t as successful as I thought!
As an aside…I wander by looking at that airport overview if anyone can tell me what the original DUB runways were? Other than RWY28 they all look quite short.
The original main runway is the disused one which the new pier encroaches on. It was 7,000 feet long later extended to 7,500 ft. The other runway which bisects it is 6,800 feet long and the short disused runway at the bottom of the picture was around 4,500 ft long. All three runways were built at the same time and the main runway may have been shorter than 7,000 ft.
I have my dad’s old log book when he was a first officer with Aer Lingus and there are details of him practising numerous touch and goes on this short runway flying an Aer Lingus DC 3. The current main runway was built in haste when tests showed that the original three runways were in a very bad state as the foundations were cracking. There are plans now to build another main parallel runway roughly where the shortest runway is at the bottom of the picture.
Superb shots BTW!

Beautiful Shots.
This is not an anti immigrant rant as I am one myself (from Ireland) but apparently around 2,000,000 immigrants have arrived in the UK since 2004 and they all have to live somewhere which even at the lower end of the market still has to have some knock on effect. A programme about Slough said people were living in Garden sheds. I don’t see it getting any better for a long time and I fear for my children who are just starting work.

Nice to see some pictures from Aberdeen for a change.
Rhavers may I suggest you contact the BA Museum. They have actual timetables from that period and before, which will have check in times. Even if they don’t have Pan Am ones I doubt that their check in times would have been any different to BOAC at the time. As to which airline he was on, there may well be someone there who may know as they are all ex BOAC/BEA with a large fund of knowledge about Heathrow/airlines generally.
And I couldn’t disagree with you more, Old Git, you are picking up on one or two personal experiences there.
I willingly stand corrected – as the saying goes, a couple of swallows don’t make a summer.
