[QUOTE=barrythemod;1064507]I reckon you’d have to have some waccy-baccy to understand these lyrics…

Well I think that was the name of the game. I was a student at the time and went to many a party, where this would be put on and out it would come. Another thing was to “drop acid” and read “Alice in Wonderland”. I have never touched drugs even though all my student friends were into them. But having said that I have become far too familiar with John Barleycorn.

Not sure if the title is right, but that song by Dean Martin “Thats Amore”
“When the moon hits your eyes, it’s like a big Pizza Pie”

By the way Express1 I forgot to mention, if you and your lady visit the Colliseum and like your food I can throughly recommend the restaurant opposite – go upstairs to a kind of gallery overlooking the Colliseum (cant remember the name of the place unfortunately) I had a great scoff at reasonable prices. My eldest daughter didn’t think much of hers but then she complains about everything.
I passed through Ciampino a few months ago and as far as photography/spotting goes I thought it was a dead loss. Some interesting stuff to be seen as you land and taxi in but as mentioned earlier security is tight. My advice – don’t waste your time.
I seem to recall a report in the Sunday Times to fly a Hercules in disguise into one of the Argentine bases and the SAS were to “neutralise” the pilots in the mess – does anyone recall this?
After the cancellation of the programme I am sure I saw one of them parked on the North side of RAF Abingdon.
I will be adding to the stats shortly!!!
Very nice shots – thks for sharing them
It does look good but I am surprised about the runway not being extended as it has been discussed for many years now
Very interesting report – I have wondered what the service was like although I flew economy with them some years back and it was OK. I know what you mean about the rudeness though as my youngest daughter and I had a similar experience with a BA woman at check in flying LA to Heathrow back in February. There is no need for it and my attitude is that if you don’t like dealing with members of the public then find yourself another job. A little courtesy to other people does not cost anything.
Deano/BlueRobin – thanks for your replies and sorry to waste your time – for one reason and another I just had a bad day and I should learn to be more tolerant. I do remember a few years back I met my son for a drink at the Downgate pub at Hungerford Common and we watched a Tiger Moth practicing landings on a field not far away and it was a pleasure to watch I have to say. I think it was the one that sadly crashed not long back G-ACD??
Two hours is a long time in one area.
My guess goes along these lines:

i.e. one of Mel Cubley’s taking photos again to sell door-to-door.The author of the thread lives nr Hungerford.
Did you get a reg?
Thks Bluerobin – no I didn’t get a reg but I have calmed down now, I have lived under the flightpaths of 2 major airports which never worried me but this had the effect of a fly buzzing back and forth, it was just a bad day and I will have to work on my patience levels – Thanks again

The serviceable slide will be supplied to you with a safety or transport pin fitted. This is a pin fitted to the trigger mechanism of the inflation bottle to prevent it going off as you are installing it. You would get a second engineer to check that you have removed it and make a second log book entry to certify that has done it. I cannot recall if it is a CAA requirement or just a company proceedure but I ALWAYS do it. Nobody died of double checking!!!!
Rgds Cking
V interesting Cking thanks, I asked because in the mid 1970s I was employed at Abu Dhabi Airport in the UAE on the admin side and remember arriving at the airport for work one day to find a row going on with the airport engineer
(nicknamed Bob Spanners) and someone from PIA. Apparently a PIA DC10 had a slide burst out on to the apron and the crew put it back before the passengers boarded and took off. I did’nt pay a lot of attention but I think the engineer was supposed to check it as a rule.
