Also, can you think of another reason why they would have ommited a relatively harmless piece of nose art? It’s not as if it contains any swearing, racial, sexual content.

Well, i heard the story about the missing nose art from someone on this board a while ago. Just can’t remember who the blooming hell it was now! 😉 I have said all that i know. You’ve got to admit it does sound fairly convincing, politics gets in the way with a lot of things these days… Thnig is, if the story is true, why didn’t DX just change the codes and serial and chose another 78thFG P-51D with some nice nose art, there were plenty after all! I suppose it could come down to cost…

    Here…

“1st. Lt. Frank E. Oiler, 84th Fighter Squadron was assigned this aircraft. The name “Sherman was Right” was inspired by the words of Civil War General William T. Sherman, when he said ” There is many a boy here who looks on war as all glory but, boys, it is all hell “. Lt. Louis R. Hereford, 84th Fighter Squadron was lost on an escort mission in this aircraft on March 3, 1945 near Nordingen, Germany.”

    Quote taken from: http://www.78thfightergroup.com/history/shermanwasright.html

I understood that some of the private funding for the AAM came from an American Company that were Democrats and did not want to paint the aircraft’s Nose Art due to its apparent support of a Republican General, All be it from the Civil War.

    To quote myself…

Well actually, this is Pacific Fighters! We fly with a merged install, the only way to fly the IL2 series. Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion + Pacific Fighters. 😀 😀

They must have FB+AEP+PF merged install

IIRC Steve the GRP replica is painted to represent ‘Sherman Was Right’ WZ-S, although the nose art was omitted due to the funding of the AAM coming from the opposing party to the wartime Sherman. Hmm… Politics eh?

Breitling emblems to what? the Breitling team? – yes of course. MK912? – not really, but if you really wanted a version with the breitling log i could shoe horn one on.

MK912 as it flew with HFL/ARCo should be uploaded this evening with a bit of luck. It will be as a Mk.IXe (Clipped). I will later upload a version how she looks today with Mr Russell as a conventional Mk.IXe with mickey mouse nose art.

I have always wanted to go to NZ and witness the Wanaka display and that beautiful back drop. Maybe 2006 😉
The closest i can get at the moment is watching the DVD, it sounds pretty good from what i understand. Well, I ordered it on tuesday from the Keypublishing online shop and asked for first class delivery. It hasn’t appeared in the post so far this morning, And i ask, has anyone here used the key shop, if so, how reliable is the delivery? I’m kind of hoping i’ll get home from work and it’ll be sitting there on the doormat ;), But i always seem to be unlucky when it comes to deliveries! Any help guys?

    TIA

What about G-BYDS? or possible Grumpy? has any body got The skin of MKIX owned by Mr Russell?

There were a few grumpys on IL2skins.com at the time. I think i have one, maybe i’ll dig it out.
As for MK912, Ed Russells lovely MkIX spitfire, well it just so happens that i skinned that exclusively for my own personal use last year. However, i may well upload it if any one wants it. I’ve got it as a clipped IXe when it was with HFL and it wouldn’t take me long to edit it with mickey mouse and wing tips to make it represent it’s current scheme in Canada.

    well…

    Excellent, what’s next?? 😀

Well, something i’ve been meaning to do for a long time.
    Two things really:

    1. Skin all UK airworthy warbirds (those that are in IL2/PF anyway) and have them in collection packs, like, the TFC pack or the RACo pack!

    2. Paint four familiar aircraft in their schemes worn during a recent period. Let me see, hints… ther’s a P-40E, a Spitfire, Mustang… oh and a Corsair! That’s correct, i’ve always wanted to form a virtual Breitling Fighters Team. It’s going to happen! So… who wants to be in the team? 😉 😉 😉
