90% of the original Suckling Airways was bought by Brian Souter and Ann Gloag who run the Stagecoach transportation empire. They rebranded it ScotAirways. That share was sold back to the Sucklings last year when Souter and Gloag decided to concentrate on their core business, ie buses. The name ScotAirways was retained as virtually all of their routes were from Edinburgh or Dundee. However, the RT cllsign ‘Suckling’ remained in all its different incarnations.

Thanks for the very informative post egpx…

Does seem strange that they sold the stake on in order to focus on buses, especially when they have now formed a partnership with Virgin Trains to bid for the East-Coast Mainline rail franchise!

If they had kept the stake in ScotAirways, all they would of needed was a stake in a shipping related company to cover all aspects of transport (road, rail, sea and air)!

    Noooo….I cannot believe it!

Am I right in thinking that Roy and Merylin Suckling still own ScotAirways?

I know they sold a large stake in the company to some Scottish investors (can’t remember who?), and then I remember reading an article in Airliner World stating that they had decided to buy back the stake.

Now that they are becoming a franchise of CityJet/AF, will they have a stake in the holding company?

I did also heard a rumour that they were considering changing it back to Suckling Airways at one point after they had bought back the stake, but now that they will be a franchise of CityJet/AF, there is no chance of that…

Oh and I hope they keep the Dornier 328’s.

Don’t worry James; according to a ScotAirways spokesman:

…the airline will continue to operate its existing aircraft and routes.

I do like the Do328, but I prefer the jet engine version instead of the prop!

The other airline that I like that operates this type of aircraft is Welcome Air – love their livery(see below)!:D

ScotAirways’ scheduled services comprise seven daily weekday flights from London City to Edinburgh – six using Dornier 328 turboprops and one rotation with a BAE Systems Avro RJ85s – and four daily flights to Dundee.

rdc1000, do you think that if they were to replace the Do328’s that the Avro RJ85’s would be the best choice in order to increase capacity, seeing as one of their flights is already operated by one of these type of aircraft…?

Although ScotAirways will exist as a company, the corporate identity on its aircraft will disappear and be replaced by either the Air France livery, or, more likely, the new CityJet livery… http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1217641/M/.

Urgh…that new CityJet livery is so…well, boring!

Biggin Hill will not become an international airport for quite some time as the local residents have had an injunction against the airport to prevent any further expansion and also preventing commerical airlines from operating services to/from there…

I am sure I read somewhere that the airport management are actively trying to get the injunction overturned, which would be great for me as I only live 20 minutes away!:D

Travelling to Spain…why not take the train?

I found an interesting site about getting the train from London to Spain:

It’s surprisingly easy to travel from the UK to Spain by train. In fact, it’s amazing that some people still think you need to fly. Take an afternoon Eurostar from London to Paris in just 2 hours 40 minutes, then the excellent overnight trainhotel from Paris to Madrid or Barcelona, with onward train connections for Alicante, Malaga, Valencia, Seville or Granada. The trainhotel has cosy bedrooms, a restaurant and a café-bar. The Gran Classe bedrooms even have a private toilet and shower… It’s affordable, too, as fares start at £59 return for Eurostar from London to Paris plus £51 each way for the trainhotel from Paris to Madrid or Barcelona including a bed in a 4-berth sleeper for the night. Better still, how about £110 each way per person in a 2-bed Gran Classes sleeper with private shower & toilet, dinner with wine and breakfast included in the fare..?

    http://www.seat61.com/Spain.htm should anyone be interested…

Definatley not something you would get on BA; or Easyjet for that matter?!

And as the pics below show, it doesnt look too bad either!:)

I am pretty sure this news has already been posted before.

What I would like to know is what new routes from the UK could/should/would be considered by the all-business class airlines…as all of them currently serve the US at the moment (New York is the most popular!).

Where would a 767 be able to make travelling east instead of west?

This is a good example of how are marriage will be. She will want one thing and I will want another thing and then we will compromise and do what she wants.:D

No…this is the way of life! For some unexplained reason, women always get what they want, but I have never understood why this is the way…is it because men are too caring and dont want to cause any upset, or is because we are weak when it comes to dominance over the female gender?

Anybody else watching this show on BBC2?
I’m really rather enjoying it so far!

Oh yes! The first time I heard about this program was when the creator of the series was on Richard & Judy, they played two preview clips and I have been hooked since then…

My DVD collection will have to be expanded to include Season 1….! 😉 😀

    Definatley!:)

I think Claire’s ability to self-heal and also Matt’s ability to read others minds are great, but my favourite character has to be Hiro – he is so funny!

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

I agree it should just be a discusion thread on general aviation as it could quickly turn sour for all the wrong reasons..

Excuse my ignorance, but I think that this issue has for more importance and relevance in commerical aviation than general…but that is just my opinion!

As far as the 4×4-owning, drive-round-the-corner-to-the-supermarket classes are concerned, I’ve already seen quite a good term in use for them in the press: ‘clarksons’.

We’ve yet to have one invented for the aviation bloody-minded but I might suggest ‘o’learies’ or, possibly, ‘sl…easyjetters’…

    Lol! Or how about “cheapskates”…!:D:diablo:

Nice shots there, good to see some stuff from somwhere different for a change.

I thought Blue Islands used their Trislanders on the inter-island routes, or have they got rid of them since they got the Jetstreams?
