I have two Skymarks models; DHL 757 (1:150) and a Virgin A340-600. I dont like the quality of the A340 model – the windows and titles on one side are in the wrong place so it looks nasty. The DHL model isnt bad.

I am glad you have said this Adam, because I recently bought the Virgin Atlantic 747-400 model (see my pic in previous post!) in favour of the A340 one because I notice the same issues that you have highlighted. Quite frankly I think the Virgin livery looks better on the 747 in general anyway, but maybe that is because I only get to see 747’s at LGW when I am at work – only on very rare occasions do we have an A340 in!

If you are looking for some really stunning 1:200 scale models, try 200scale.net. They are based in the US and sell Hogan models – I have a JAL 777-300 and its beautiful. I’ll get you a shot of it later.:)

Very good suggestion Adam, it promoted me to research into them a bit, and I have turned up quite a result, a very interesting website that sells a whole range of models (inc. Hogan and Skymarks), and their prices quite reasonable as well…here’s the link: http://www.replicaminiatures.com/index.htm

The picture may have been removed from the home page by the time you read this, but doesnt the BA/Loganair DHC-6 Twotter just look stunning! 😀 😎

If you cant see the picture on the above link, click on this link: http://www.replicaminiatures.com/SKR303-Twin-Otter-X350opt.gif

Am seriously considering purchasing one for myself…decisions, decisions…lol.

Nice shots there Lance! Both shots of the Helvetic F100 are superb, so good on you for uploading both. I think that pink livery is so vibrant and distinguishable – love it!:D

Just out of curiosity, who are MahanAir and where do they fly to/from, as I have never heard of or seen them before?

Just goes to show that it can happen to anyone at anytime…!

Damn glad he is ok, as JT is a damn good actor!:D

Anyone down near Shannon at all able to get a pic of his jet whilst its still there?

No doubt it will be tucked away in a camera shy spot…!

His home has its own runway and his Boeing 707 is kitted out with THREE dining rooms. He has flown 30,000 miles over the past year.

I do hope he has paid to ‘off-set’ his CO2 emissions…:diablo::p

Nice shots there Paul, just two questions…who was the all white BAe 146 operating for and where was it destination, and is the Jet2 a/c one of their new ones that they have accquired from China or not? Just wondering because I notice it is missing its silver coat of paint, which kinda makes the livery look rather dull and boring!

The Ladybird tail design belongs to ACT Airlines, a cargo carrier, from Turkey. First time i’ve ever seen one of their planes. It stopped off for about 90 mins yesterday. Here’s another (rather poor) picture:
    http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/tomfellows/LGW%202%20MARCH%2007/IMG_0590.jpg

Ah yes…ACT Airlines! Now I have heard of them and they are a regular visitor to LGW, as I have seen their a/c parked on the remote stands before now…just not seen the the ladybird design on the tail, so it must be a new addition to their livery! Below is another image to show full livery on one of their A300F’s – apologises for the size!

    Thanks anyway for that Tom!

Very interesting shots there… I particularly like the Britten Norman Islander one, and the helicopter carrying the infamous ‘National Rail’ logo, wonder what they could of been doing…surveying the rails from the air perhaps, or just making sure the trains are running on time…lol!:p 😀

    Nice shots there mate!

I must admit at first I hated the new XL livery, but your photo has just changed my mind…I love it!:D

The FCA and Air Comet shots are also brillant!

Just a quick question though…? What is the object in the background of the Clickair shot? And lastly, what is the airline with the ladybird tail design, I have never heard or seen it at LGW until now?

Nice shots there! I particularly like the shot of the Emirates B777, the size of the thing compared to the tiny Grob Tutor on the taxiway made me chuckle…:D

Which brings me nicely onto a few questions…?

    1. Where were these shots taken, GLA or PIK?

    2. Which Air Experience Flying (AEF) Squadron is based at the airport?

    3. Is AEF flying not done from RAF bases, so as not to disrupt commerical activities…?

    Just curious that is all…?

I see its all in dollars on the website.

    James

That’s because they are an American company, although the models themselves are actually made in Taiwain if my memory serves me correct…;)

Prices in US$’s doesnt really offer any significant discount on £’s at the moment, probably because of the infavourable exchange rate…?

I tend to buy my models from my local Modelzone store, although the Spirit MD-80 and United 757 came from the main reception desk at Orlando’s Executive Airport whilst I was over there on a school trip, and the Flybe one (my latest purchase!:D) came from The Aviation Experience gift shop at Birmingham International the other week!

One thing that did suprise me though was when I went to the Boeing factory in Seattle last year, I expected there be a whole range of the Skymarks models avaliable to buy (obviously only the Boeing types…:p), but there was only one Skymark model avaliable – the 777 in its ‘Worldliner’ livery…and the price was horribly expensive, so I decided not to part with my hard earned cash!

I sure do! I’ll post a pic of my Ted, EZY and LS models later on for you!

Oh, and I get mine off Ebay, a quid or two cheaper there, but you pay for the quality thats for sure!

Cheers for the advice about Ebay, I signed up to it ages ago but have never really used it. I have checked recently for models, but there didnt really seem to be many…:(

Btw, here’s a couple of pics of my models for you to admire…

The day after on the 27th we are flying to Cork, and then onto Dublin where we will arrive by 1300. We shall then be staying for the rest of the day, so people are welcome to come along. Some people may even wish to get a hotel room together at Stansted the night before, and come with us?

Thanks for the offer…I’ve just booked my flights!

£40.10 rtn with Ryanair as I managed to convince my friend to come along for the day too. Dep LGW @ 10:00; arr DUB @ 11:15! 😀

I have never been to Ireland (or flown with FR for that matter!), so should be an ‘experience’ all round then ‘eh?

Where will you guys be heading once you land…besides the nearest pub, no doubt? :D:diablo:

What is there in the way of movements at DUB, is it mainly European/short-haul or are there any transatlantic/long-haul services?

Not my cup of tea at all, its just…well, ‘lifeless’ in my opinion!

It also makes the garish design of EasyJet actually look good for once!:D

    Nice shots there!

I love those pics of the sea-planes!

I too have had the experience of flying in a seaplane, but it was in Ketchikan, Alaska. We flew to a remote island which is only inhabitated by 2,000 people, and has lots of wildlife, including black bears, which we saw!

No offence, Skiathos might be a great place to holiday and spot, but for out and out traffic, the Greek Islands are never going to be the busiest, and SKG with the very short runway certainly isn’t! Places like that have certain days where they are quite busy and certain days where they are absolutely dead. I have been to Zante and Corfu which are busier than Skiathos, and found that to be the case.

I would have to agree with you on this point LBARULES…sorry, no offence CAZ66! I think SKG would be better in the summer, unfortunatley I my friends b’day is on 9th Feb, so we are trying to get a few days either side of this date…

Why not try the USA, LAX is very nice ! Affordable business class with Aer Lingus ex LHR/DUB.

Thanks Ren Frew for the suggestion, will look further into flights to LAX, but I think I am more than likely to stick with Europe now. May consider LAX in the future though…

Does anyone know which airport within Europe is the best for spotting? I assume it is AMS, unless someone cares to correct me?
