Flights from London to the Lakes are also possible. One proposal is to offer flights from the capital to Oxfordshire, which would cost about £120.

£120 for a flight from London to Oxford; thats a bit pricey, even if its a return fare – I think I would rather catch the train!

Kinda reminds me of a failed venture that was set up from Oxford to Cambridge…[cough]:D:p:diablo:

Having said that, I do wish them good luck with it as it would be a nice thing to see Twotters on the Thames…

Talking to them, they realise that they need to ‘engage’ with aircraft enthusiasts to counter terrorism. Rather than keep harrassing enthusiasts round the perimeter fence, it looks as though they have finally realised that a ‘viewing area’ is required near the approach end to each runway, which could generate funds for the police and the airport.

AT LAST – COMMON SENSE PREVAILS!:D:D:D

This is a wonderful idea as I can do some viewing during my lunch break/s; seeing as I work at the airport! At the moment I am restricted to having to go ‘airside’ and over to the Pier 6 construction or I have to go to the rather cramped ‘Sports Bar’ in the depature lounge of the South Terminal, where there are big windows to see through. Both offer relativley good views of the runway, however, the windows are rarley cleaned so it is not the most pleasant view of all at either location…

Do you know how I can put my name down for one those ID cards you metioned?

If only they [BAA and the local police] would do the same for Heathrow…

I flew TCX to Zante in 2005.

I have never been so glad to get off a 757 in all my puff! I’m not tall by any means… a mere 1.75m but even my knees dug firmly into the back of the seat in front.
The pitch must have been 28″, perhaps 29″.

Yeah, unfortuantley this is the case with most charter carriers though…I know for sure that one of the airlines that has been mentioned (can’t name them as I work on behalf of them!), but there seat pitch is 29 inches.

And believe it or not, but MON (not the airline I work on behalf of, before anyone jumps to conclusions!) they have 30 inch seat on all their aircraft, even their long-haul, which my grandparents flew on over Christmas. They did LGW-ACC (Accupulco, Mexico), and said that it was the most uncomfortable flight they have ever been on in their lives…and they have travelled and flown alot!

The Kent Escapes flights will be used by an 165 seater MD-83 aircraft and all passengers will receive in-flight service, which includes a meal.

Yeah, I recieved this as an electronic newsletter from Kent Escapes the other day:

KIA Manston – £19 SEAT SALE TO FARO & ALICANTE!

Kent Escapes are delighted to announce a fantastic flight only fare promotion during the month of May to celebrate the launch of their summer 2007 programme.

Passengers can visit Portugal’s Algarve and Spain’s Mediterranean coast from just £19 return.

The offer applies to bookings made between Tuesday April 17 until Tuesday April 24, with low return fares available for Faro on May 3 and May 10, and Alicante on May 6 and May 13.

The promotion applies to 7 and 14 night stays, and true to Kent Escapes policy of “the price you see is the price you pay”, the rock bottom fare includes all taxes and charges.

Richard Burke, Managing Director of Kent Escapes part of the Seguro Travel Group, said: “We are delighted to offer the people of Kent these low cost flight only seats as we look forward to the summer 2007 programme kicking off. Passengers now have access to great fares from their local airport instead of being forced to make the journey to Gatwick or Stansted.”

Matt Clarke, General Manager of Kent International Airport, added: “Everyone at the airport is looking forward to welcoming the Kent Escapes flights back after last year. It’s important that people are able to fly from their local airport if they choose to, and we hope that customers will take advantage of this fantastic flight only deal.”

Kent Escapes use 165 seater MD83 aircraft and all passengers will receive in-flight service, which includes a meal.

Booking these cheap fares is simple – just call 0845 676 0043 and speak to a friendly and experienced sales representative, or visit http://www.kentescapes.com

Following a successful first season in 2006, Kent Escapes will operate flights to Faro again this year, with weekly departures to the popular Portuguese Algarve resort between May and October.

The other destinations on offer this year are Palma, located on the Mediterranean holiday island of Majorca, and Alicante, which is surrounded by popular destinations, including Benidorm.

Kent Escapes offers a wide range of 7 and 14 day packages, with accommodation in the two star to five star range.

The company also operates a policy of “The Price You See is the Price You Pay” – there are £0 flight supplements and no hidden costs in the small print.

All Kent Escapes holidays and flights are protected by Seguro Travel Limited ATOL 3251 and ABTA V7808 licenses.

Seguro fly thousands of sun seekers out of Infratil’s Scottish airport, Glasgow Prestwick, every year, making it the airport_s largest tour operator with a high volume of repeat customers.

Kent International Airport offers a speedy, hassle-free experience for travellers with convenient car-parking located less than 100 metres from the check-in desk and modern passenger facilities including shops and restaurants.

Finding a flight to Europe over the northern summer peak season will prove more difficult with the announcement by Gulf Air that it will no longer fly to Australia…

…However, the loss of Gulf is counterbalanced by the arrival of Abu Dhabi-based Etihad. Etihad and Dubai’s Emirates have both been given permission by the federal Government to expand services to Australia’s major airports.

To be honest I think that it is a wise move for Gulf Air, because if they are already making a loss on flights to Oz, then they would definatley struggle once Emirates and Etihad have moved in!

There also appears to be another new airline on the scene…it is called Birmingham European Airways.

Before anyone mentions, this is not the now defunct ‘Birmingham European Airways’ that was originally formed in 1983, it is a newly established airline that is planning to serve several European destinations from Birmingham, using Jetstream 31 aircraft, although the people behind the new venture had hoped to of started operations by last year, so not sure what is happening with it at present, but here is a link to the ‘new’ Birminham European website: http://www.birminghameuropean.com/

Come on guys, stop with the negative comments…

Do bear in mind he saw it at a bay, so is not likely to be able to of got a wonderful view of it, especially without any binoculars.

And do also consider that it was his first post, so surely you can forgive him for being a bit confused…

Hi there it was not this was it? http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=277686

Dont think it could be the Islander James because that is a fixed wing and does not have retractable wheels; as far as I am aware…

It looked like a small commercial or cargo plane, predominantly red and white (white body, red features). No sign of wheels showing. Close enough to read number (but didn’t record it).

My best guess would be that it was the 747-400 of OASiS Hong Kong Airlines as that fits the description that you mention…and as James has pointed out, B-LFB was doing touch ‘n’ go training at MSE last Sunday! It could be that they were just doing ILS/glideslope training and not actually landing on the runway, which would mean they would have no reason to have the landing gear down…the straight answer is I dont know for sure!

Here is a link to a pic of their livery, have a look to see if it is this or not?

In terms of your other questions regarding the potential success of landing an aircraft without wheels, I am afraid I would not be able to help with those, sorry, but hope I have helped with the identifcation process…:D

    £129 FOR A ONE-WAY TRIP! 😮

And to think that you can fly from LGW to Hong Kong on OASiS Hong Kong Airlines for approx £75 (if you book early enough!), which is a 12-13hr flight each way, £129 for a one-way trip to New York seems ridiculously expensive for what you get!

Quite like it myself, looks not bad….however, i feel it has a long way to being as smart as This little beaut 😀

Have to agree with you on that one Tartan, the Titan Airways livery really does suit the 146, although I did prefer their white/blue colour scheme!:D

To be honest I think this will work and will appeal to alot of people, because a flight to New York for just $12 does sound great! Having said this, I think it is a mistake for them not to include a baggage transfer policy between the short and long-haul sectors. How hard can it be to move a bag from one aircraft to another? They could even charge an extra ten quid for the privelige, which would be yet another revenue generating scheme but one that i think would be quite popular with pax that decide to book ‘through’ tickets.

At this stage though, I personally do not see myself using this service, although I am not in a position to comment fully because I have never had the experience of flying on a ‘low-cost’ airline before, although I am due to fly with FR for the first time to Dublin on 27th June, so you can expect my first impressions to be expressed to the full in my trip report when I get home…:D

For example if 75% of people are willing to pay more for extra space why do the likes of Ryanair sell so many seats, mostly to people looking for the cheapest ticket regardless of anything else…, and why do business class cabins, where available, seldom account for 75% of the pax load?

    1L.

I think your comment emphasises my point doesnt it OneLeft; the fact that it seems unfair that low-cost airlines have been included within this survey and rated in terms of onboard catering and amenities, when they do not offer any at all (or offer a ‘to purchase’ option whilst onboard!) because that is the whole ethos of a low-cost/no-frills carrier – in order to reduce their operating costs to be able to provide low-fares, they do not offer all the additional extras/’frills’ or additional comfort that traditional airlines offer? Do you agree?

Does anyone have any recommendations about new models that you would like to see from Skymarks in the near future?

At present there are only two that I can think of…

    1. Continental B757-200 (with winglets!)

    2. Monarch A320/A321 in their current livery

…but I am sure that there are plenty more that I can think of for the future!

    Any suggestions welcome.
