Canary Islands???
Damn, that is going to have a huge impact on the major charter carriers, such as First Choice, Monarch, Excel…etc, as this is their biggest market isnt it?
Firstly I think anyone would have to be crazy to want to do a 4hr flight, with no food and no IFE?
And imagine if your flight back was cancelled…taking into account what Ryanair’s customer service standards are like?
I got no response to my enquiries btw.
Ok, well thanks for trying anyway.
Does anyone think that there is a market/demand for flights to the Isle of Wight at all?
The ferry services take approx 20 mins (pax only), and 50 mins (car + pax) mins from Southampton, yet a flight in say a Trislander from Bembridge to Eastleigh would take about 10 minutes…would it work and would you use it instead of the ferry services?
Oh dear, doesn’t look good…

There is no reason to say why it has been withdrawn, but perhaps the level of demand was less than first thought, like the Oxford to Cambridge route that was started and soon stopped for the same reason?
I see they’ve finally updated the KIA-M website front page and theres now a piece about the USA flights.
Cool. Still does not offer any info in terms of what a/c Monarch will use, but at least they have had the decency to provide a proposed start date…3rd May.
If these flights to the US from KIA are a success, does anyone think that Cosmos/Monarch might look to expand services to Europe? The reason I ask is because I know Monarch have quite a large operation out of LGW, and so I am not sure if it would be a viable option or not?
I personally think it would be great to see further expansion. Could definatley see services to AGP, ALC and possibly TFS going down well with locals.
That is without doubt, the most disgusting, vile thing I’ve ever seen sprawled across a jumbo.
This has to be the most pointless publicity stunt ever!
You both took the words right out of my mouth! 😀
First, important to realise that there is a difference between working hours and flying hours.
Ah, I apologise, I should of made it clearer at the start – I did in fact mean flying hours.
There are rules associated with the maximum length of each duty period (which will vary according to start time, number of sectors flown, and whether the crew member is acclimitised to local time or not), and for the rest period following each duty and for days off following several days duty. Then there are are also rules covering the number of flying hours that may be operated over seven days (rolling), 28 days (again, rolling) and annually. The 900 hours quoted above is flying hours, not duty hours.
Thanks for the in-depth info, very much appreciated. One further question though, is the 900hrs figure for pilots or cabin crew? Is there a difference between the number of hours a pilot can work, and the number of hours cabin staff can work.
I do believe I know the folks behind this….
Need to do some checking
Ok, thanks for that.
Please let me know if you find anything out.
PM me if necessary.
I hear that Monarch might use one off there 757 aircraft on the routes.
Ah, sorry to disapoint James, but according to the article that hawkdriver05 posted the link to it states different a/c to be used…
Monarch Airlines, a well-known British charter service, will operate the flights using either an Airbus A330 or a Boeing 767ER. The airbus carries 374 passengers and the Boeing, 309.
Isn’t it a bit risking using such a large a/c like a 767ER? I would of thought a 757 would of made it, and would of been more suitable choice as it is a completley new market that Monarch are entering. Unless they can prove that demand is sufficient for use of a 767ER?
If they do use a 767ER or A330, I wonder if they will offer a premium upgrade class at all?
Picture’s a bit small.
Yeah, sorry, but the file size is 400kb, max to upload is 300kb, so I had to reduce it, but didn’t know how to make it any bigger than it is… 😮
If you strain your eyes for a few seconds, you should be able to make it out.
Does it matter what aircraft somebody is going to fly on? Just wait until the day you go and you’ll find out.
I don’t think it does matter what a/c you fly on, just as long as you get to where you are going! I personally think it would be better to wait until the day you go because it is more of a suprise.
I remember my flight to LHR-SFO about two years ago, I had no idea I would be travelling on a 747-400, and was really excited when I got to gate to see it standing there as it was the first time I flew on such a magnificent aircraft.
You make a good point, espiecially as you can find out in most cases the aircraft type with some self internet research.
Flex
I agree, most airlines offer info on their websites as to what a/c they use, even some scheduled airlines will tell you exactly what type of a/c you will fly on if you put in the destination and dates you are travelling. For charters though it is usually a 737, 757, 767, A320, A321 or A330 for short-haul flights, but as Flex said, with a bit of self-research, I am sure you can find it out. Either that or you could ask your local travel agent to find out for you.
Thanks guys for all the comments. I did think at first that you had forgotten, but thanks anyway. I did have a nice birthday, although I didn’t get exactly what I wanted. I asked my parents for a new digital camera so that I can do some decent photography, but instead they bought me a DVD Recorder – fair compromise.
Reasonable? Yes. Lame? One of the most lame. Must try harder.
Ok, well we seem to of gotten off the wrong foot here…I apologise for not trying harder, but as I said before, being a complete beginner I wouldn’t know how to try harder…I didn’t know that such a simple question would cause friction between two fellow forum members… 🙁
You might want to sort out the HTML in your signature, whilst you’re at it. Including the Bold tags in your link means that you can’t click through to your exciting homepage.
Thanks for the advice, have been trying to work out why it won’t work, as you are not the only one who has mentioned that it does not work, so I will rectify as soon as…
Don’t shoot Birthday Boy down on his Birthday! 😀
Thanks. 😀
Yawn! It is nice to see somebody other than R Weaver posting questions, but honestly, this one is pretty lame…
Well I am sorry, but as I spend most of my time in the Commerical Aviation forum, and have only just recently got interested in GA, it seemed quite a reasonable question to ask in my opinion…? 😉
First Choice Airways, their long haul service puts the other charters to shame.
Here here… 😀
Ummm…James, I am not sure. Whilst it does look very dodgy indeed, according to their website they have a head office is based in a prime Central London location. I have checked out the Companies House website to see what it says, and the company does exist as ‘Esperia Limited’, was registered on the 08/07/2005, and the address does match the website’s address, but who knows…
All I will say is that I think they are currently breaking copyright law at the moment because I have seen the picture of the aircraft in the top-right hand corner of the home page on the BBC’s website, but there is no quotation or reference of any kind. Unless of course he/she owns that particular image, which I strongly doubt.
They also provide telephone numbers, but I wouldn’t want to risk it at this stage, so I have used my initiative and sent them an e-mail to find out more info, as I would not want to alienate them on here if they are for real or not.
I will keep you informed if I have any response.
On the subject matter, I would of suspected that Monarch would use an Airbus A330 or a Boeing 767-300, but not sure if they offer a special premium upgrade class at all, like FCA’s ‘Star Class Premier’?
