My Dad said that Syd’s body may of died now, but his spirit and mind died many years ago…primarily due to the drugs he took.
I don’t know anything about him or Pink Floyd, but hope he rests in peace.

Wow Virginia, that is a great step up the ladder for MSE, at last, and could prove vital to the development of the airport. Nice to see a new destination choice as well, rather than an airline entering into the already swamped European market first of all.
Having said that, I am sure that if these services are introduced and prove to be successful, then Cosmos/Monarch will have no problems in launching services to other places across their network.
Could be interesting times ahead James, please keep us informed of any further developments! 😀
Manston 😀
James
Yeah, James, as much as I would like to sing to Manston’s praises, as I do think it has good potential, you do have to wonder why other airlines have not already started services. I think an FR service to Dublin would be perfect for the airport and area itself, but it has not had any schedulded passenger traffic since the collapse of EUJet, and has only just begun operations with one charter operator, KentEscapes.com.
To be honest, the Government are constantly complaining that they need another airport to quench demand in the South-East, and Manston, along with other airports such as Southend and Lydd (London Ashford), all have good potential, but with LGW’s sphere of influence, I really doubt it would be possible, unless there was another start-up carrier like EUJet. Perhaps, it could be called Air SouthEast (intended pun against Air Southwest…poor joke I know 😮 ).
LBA to LGW or another airport in London vis Jet2?
That would be good, seeings as Jet2 already have a LGW-MAN service, could defo see them expanding from there…they would be even better if they decided to operate low-cost services to TFS and other such destinations from LGW, as this would be good competition against the other charter carriers (Monarch, Excel, First Choice, etc…)
Nice. Just out of interest, how many pax can it carry?
Carlisle-London City (Scotair?)
This was mentioned in a recent Airliner World competition whereby entrants had to choose a name for their own domestic airline, and explain what their inaugrial route would be, and some person wrote in with this route suggestion. Can’t remember the exact details, but he claimed it would be good for people who wanted to visit the Lake District?
What kind of facilties are at Carlisle, is it actually a commerical airport or is it more of a General Aviation spot? If so, it would require mega amounts of money to adapt the current facilties to make it into a proper airport.
Durham Tees Valley – Stansted
Leeds – London City
Doncaster – Aberdeen
Doncaster – Edinburgh
Newquay – LiverpoolMost of these routes would be perfect for a new domestic airline, particularly using the likes of ATR42/72 aircraft.
What do you lot think??
Scott
Personally, I don’t think that a new domestic airline would work, as it would only take the likes of Easyjet, Ryanair, Flybe, etc to put in a couple of services ontop of what the new airline would have, and soon enough they would be squeezed out of the market.
Newquay – Liverpool
Now that is an interesting route, maybe Air Southwest could consider taking it up…they seem to expanding a lot these days.
I have an interesting idea for a new domestic airline that can serve a real niche market, as there is currently no competiting services. Some might know what I am on about, but I don’t really want to mention it on here because of the recent upsurge in critical comments that have been made… 🙁
According to Seatguru, they have 2 configs on the 744. One with 38 business class seats and one with 70 business class seats. On the 38J config, rows 20 and 21 are indeed in the WTP cabin. Hope this helps.
Ah, just checked this site out, and have found the correct diagram…and can confirm we are defo in WTP. Thanks.
OneLeft, I have PM’d you, but thanks to the site I have found the right config. Would be good if you could just confirm 110% though.
And just as a side, I have also found out that on my outbound flight (LHR-YYC) on Air Canada, I am flying on an A330-300, not a 767, which was a suprise to me,. I am travelling in Economy, what can I expect?
Thanks very much for that advice T5, I have now signed up to Monster.co.uk, and will wait to see if I get any responses. Just out of interest, what categories did you put down. I have only put ‘aerospace/aviation’ and ‘airlines’ as my choices, as this is the industry I want to work in, is that ok, or should I widen my choice?

Ah, sorry, didn’t see that. 😮
Fantastic shot, I too would love to go there!
We already have fuel levy’s they can ******* off. Its them lot who fly private jets about aint it.
Fuel levy’s are in place to compensate airlines for the rising cost of oil though, not as a tax for the impact on environment. Some airlines absorb the cost of the rising increase, such as Ryanair who gaurantee its passengers they will not introduce a fuel surcharge, where as others such as BA and Virgin charge up to £70 return. The ‘green tax’, if implemented, would be an additional cost to add on top of any other surcharges.
I am not sure where the tax would be applied to, but as I said in my initial post it does seem unreasonable to charge one industry when others are having the same impact. Look at the number of cars on the road with only 1 person in them, which is why I think that if any kind of ‘green’ tax is to be introduced, it should be on road users.
Thanks for all your advice, will certainly bear it in mind.
Can I ask why you can’t stay on? To be fair most employers that I know would want to see a full degree, is it an option? Ignore my post if you prefer not to answer.
Yes rdc1000, you most certainly can ask…in fact that is the most popular question I am currently being asked at the moment. The reason I cannot stay on next year is because I only achieved 48% (minimum pass mark for Foundation Degree was 40%, so I just scrapped in!), and the pass mark for getting a place on next years top-up was 50%, so I was only 2% off, but the uni are not prepared to let me on as it is seen as favouring individual students, which is fair enough.
Get directly into contact with the airlines and airports would be my suggestion for you at this point.
I have also tried this method as well, but most of them have either said they cannot accept speculative applications or have just not bothered to reply at all… 🙁
is this all the article?
I believe it is an article as it says it is from the Financial Times, but does not really provide any new information, it is just a slightly different perspective.
Welcome to the forum by the way! 😀
