Indeed Dr S, whilst they do treat everyone with equal contempt on their flights (you’re not a customer/human being/passenger…you’re nothing more to them than a mere statistic!), their impact on the industry has resulted in other airlines charging customers a higher price for what is now considered to be a “below-average/shoddy” level of service, because everything revolves around “price” and price alone, and trying to get things for as cheap as possible.

Gone are the days of “respectable” air travel with a “respectable” level of service at an equally “respectable” price!

A wise move if you ask me, good to see that they are putting “customers” first, although I do feel sorry for those people whose flights/holidays that this suspension will no doubt affect.

I am perfectly calm Grey, but I do think that in these kind of threads where there is no clearly defined outcome and it is simply based on a matter of opinion, everyone appears to get on their high-horse so as to try to prove/disprove that their viewpoint is as equally valid as everyone else’s, and there sometimes going to be instances where some take it slightly more seriously than they really should, and God knows I have been known to do it myself…what can I say, I’m human.

To put it bluntly though, Ryanair is quite literally the Marmite of the airline industry…you either love ’em or hate ’em, and it doesn’t matter which side your on, whatever you think about them is valid, after all its your opinion.

Jon if that’s what you think of me then I have news for you – I really don’t care…feel free to form whatever opinions of me you like, I’m really not all that bothered.

    Likewise.:)

And yes Sky High, I agree, however that is how things often turn out when there is a difference of opinion, and its quite sad to be honest.

What is so “puzzling” about it though…?

Of course you’re not the only person to raise a concern over what he said, but when you come out with statements such as “I just hate narrow-minded attitudes”…it just strikes me as though you seem to think that everything you say is right, and whenever someone says something to the contary you’re up there ready to pour scorn all over it, and often it is the way you say things that can comes across as rather confrontational.

Of course, I do not dispute that you are perfectly appropriate to express your opinions too, but just accept that other people don’t necessarily share the same views, as should everyone else.

    I just hate narrow-minded attitudes.

And, of course, you’ve never said anything narrow-minded or patronising on this forum before have you PMN…:mad:

At the end of the day, Andy/Skymonster is expressing his own opinion which he is perfectly entitled to do, and he is only making an analogy based on another carrier, which Ryanair chooses to base their business model on, so I do not see what the issue is.

Whether you agree/disagree or find his opinion insulting is ultimately down to you, but don’t shoot him down in flames for raising what is a perfectly valid viewpoint that I ultimately agree with, and I too am looking forward to the day that flying by air becomes more civilised.

If you feel really upset by what has been said, why not PM him to discuss the issue privately, or better still, PM a Mod and raise your grievences with them and ask that they have a word on your behalf…quite simple, really?

I am minded to agree with you on that Orion…just look at what happend at Manston with EUJet. Planestation, which owned the airport, took a 30% stake in the airline, then chose to buy out the remaining 70%, and then when the airline failed, it led to the closure of the airport as well, and 6 years on the airport (now owned by Infratil) is only just starting to see the emergence of some passenger services in the form of Flybe serving Manchester and Edinburgh on a daily basis.

That said though, Manston does have quite a few cargo flights each week, which is what is helping to “prop-up” the airport financially.

Does anyone have any news on how the sales are going for the Aer Arran flights to/from SEN?

    BAA says “Don’t blame us…”

Rather unsurprisingly, BAA have come back fighting against the claims made by bmi after their announcement that they are going to stop flying between London Heathrow and Glasgow.

BAA claim that the decision by bmi to drop the Glasgow route has been on the cards for quite some time now, and that the reason is “purely a commercial one”…and that it is wrong for bmi to blame them.

Whilst load factor/yield may well have influenced the decision, surely it is the increase in the charges at Heathrow that has been the final nail in the coffin, which has led to bmi making this “commerical” decision, so they [BAA] do need to shoulder some responsibility for the loss of the route?

BMI said forthcoming rises in domestic passenger charges at Heathrow had made the loss-making route “unsustainable”.

Also, I believe that BMI have reduced the number of flights to MAN from LHR from six to four, and these are now operated using one of their regional ERJ’s instead of an Airbus A319/320.

This story was the front page article on the local Skyport newspaper here at LHR last week, stating that BAA were trying their level best to kill off UK domestic air travel.

I picked up a copy of The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo whilst doing my weekly shop this week, so I sat and watched it this afternoon.

Great film, decent plot, although I must admit I did experience a slight difficulty at first in keeping up with the subtitles as it was quite fast paced in some parts, but I managed in the end; refused to have to turn on the English Audio version!:D:o

The Flight would be Monday morn. early and Friday teatime back to UK.

Just bear in mind that the times you want/need to travel are peak travelling times, and seeing as CityJet (VLM) are the only airline to fly direct, and it being from LCY, it probably won’t be all that cheap…but seeing as its for work purposes, is cost necessarily a factor?
