Great news Kabir, but can you confirm if the DEL-SFO route will be direct or will it stop en-route…I read a report the other day suggesting that AI were considering in looking at more “direct” options for flights rather than forcing people to have to transit via a European hub?
Interior pics!
As promised, I got to have a quick look around whilst the Air France A380 was being turned-around at LHR, so I went onboard and took a few pics…sorry again for the quality, but hope you enjoy them.:)
Yes, they [Porter] did just recently open their newly extended terminal in March 2010…and judging from some of the pictures I have seen of it, it looks very nice indeed.
Having flown on Porter myself, I can personally testify as to how great an airline they truly are, would go so far as to say that they are the best airline I have flown on! Can’t really describe it in words, but just the service and style of the airline is fantastic, and flying into YTZ is a great experience too!
If only we had something/someone similar operating Q400’s outta LCY?!
I dont think silverjet’s B767’s are at Luton anymore?
Ah my bad, I’ve just re-read the thread title…now noticed the 2007 bit…:o
Well you know the saying “better late than never”…thanks for sharing anyway Cossie1!:)
I think the B737-800 in the topic pic is more likely to be Ryanair 🙂
I was going to say something similar, seeing as Easyjet don’t operate any aircraft with blended winglets on them!;)
Good to see Silverjet still around, albeit not in its normal manner of an all-business class airline…what are they’re aircraft being used for nowadays, seems like they are being loaded with something?
Was such a shame they went bust, was hoping to fly with them or EOS at some point…ah well, will have to settle for flying ZRH-EWR-ZRH on the PrivatAir 738 instead (just gotta save some money now!).
Have to agree with Vulcan118 there…the shot of the pair of Virgin 744’s is by far my favourite!:)
Nice shots. Thanks for sharing.:)
That sure is a lot of Delta aircraft, is AMS some sort of hub for them in Europe?
How many flights do they have a day and where do they fly to…JFK/ATL/CVG/MSP/DTW, anywhere else?
Very nice indeed Rob, great stuff as per usual, Aurigny is my personal favourite; I seem to love that airline for some unknown reason, yet I’ve never even flown on them, shame they don’t serve LHR!:D
Have you confirmed the dates for your next trip to LHR; I have my roster for July now, so PM the dates your thinking of coming down here and I’ll see if I am working or on a day off!:)
Great shots! I never knew skyteam made logojets, I like them! 😀
Agreed, they’re far nicer than the Star Alliance logojets that’s for sure!
Since joining last year, Continental have had some of their aircraft painted up as Star logojets, and we get them quite often over here at LHR, but they’re all white with huge black ‘STAR ALLIANCE’ text along the fuselage, and then CO’s logo on the bottom towards the front, also in black. Frankly they look hideous in my opinion and should be re-designed asap, especially seeing as the Star Alliance is considered to be the best alliance in the world!
Nice shots.
Couple of quick questions…
– What’s the registration of that KLM “SkyTeam” logojet?
– How many “SkyTeam” logojets does KLM now have?
The reason I ask is because I haven’t as yet seen one or “it” at LHR, would sure be nice to see it down here at some point!:)
Congrats on the new record A225HVY, very impressive, and some nice photos too! Thanks for sharing.:)
Steve…LMAO!:D
Shame some of his fellow management didn’t follow WW’s example and turn down their bonuses. In fact, they should not pick up another performance related bonus until BA are in the black
Here here
well thats something you don’t see everyday!
Indeed not Kabir, but when you actually experience it, its actually quite scary!
This happened to me only a couple of weeks ago when I met an inbound flight; only difference was that on this particular occasion the rollback was not caused due to a lack of chocks, more so the fact that the Captain had not set the parking break properly, but thankfully it was only the slightest of rollbacks and no damage was caused, but you’ll be surprised how easy it can be for things like this to happen and potentially how costly they can be!
Nah, its probably the equivalent of the Daily Express/Mail because as per usual they’ve got their facts wrong…
The flight to Chicago was running late. Then the co-pilot got sick, forced out of the Boeing 767 cockpit by vicious stomach flulike symptoms…
The unidentified San Francisco-based flight attendant dutifully abandoned her beverage cart and put on a radio headset, replacing the ill first officer in the right seat of the jumbo jet’s flight deck to help the captain during the landing.
Since when has a Boeing 767 ever been considered a “jumbo jet”…
Fair play to the unidentified flight attendant though for coming forward and taking over. Whilst I am sure the Captain would have been able to continue the flight alone if necessary, she did a very honorable thing…and even better, none of the passengers onboard were any the wiser upon a safe landing in ORD!:)
You have accidently hit the nail on the head against your own arguments there C9.
Talking about negotiation is fine, but it isn’t just pure salaries that are causing the problem (and indeed nobody will be taking pay cut at BA)…so if the airline is to survive then they need to cut unnecessary costs and so they need to impliment the new working conditions.
Ok, I think we can agree on this, however, my point is and has always been throughout this whole situation, why doesn’t BA look at its entire operation in order to work out where the axe needs to fall in terms of making those unnecessary costs rather than just blindly turning to and hitting the hard-working people that represent the brand and perform to a consistently high standard which helps to continue bringing passengers, but ultimately, revenue into the company.
Admittedly I do not know enough about the airline itself or its working practices, but it seems to me that BA has far too many managers and high-end level of staff that get paid far too much money for the kind of jobs that they do…why not look to make savings there?
Right now, it seems to me as though BA can be compared to something similar to that of the Labour party. For about 5 years (2003-08) it made a profit, and so they seem to have taken the attitude that they were impervious to any future challenges within the global market conditions (such as Gordon Brown’s claim to of done away with “boom and bust” when he was Chancellor!), and since then they have failed to act when it was necessary in order to adapt to these new threats and challenges, so much so that any changes cost-cutting measures they make just end up “tinkering” on the edges.
As I have said before, I think what BA needs first and foremost is a new leader and complete overhaul of its management structure, then they need to look at the markets that they serve as I am sure there are some routes that they serve that are loss-making (why not cut these routes and use the aircraft/crews on better, more profitable routes?). Only then we will truly see any significant changes made, and hopefully, a return to profitability.
