There must be something up with LHR.
Indeed there has been. The runways are very icy, and just as soon as BAA have cleared the runway of ice, it begins to re-freeze just as quickly. Also, visibility has been a big issue today.
Due to the closure of LGW, I suspect that some aircraft were made to land at LHR instead; I saw a Monarch A320 parked up on a remote stand by T4 early this afternoon whilst on the staff bus to the car park! With that in mind, anything that was scheduled to arrive into LHR will have been diverted elsewhere.
In addition following popular demand I have moved the Civil Aviation Images sub-forum back to its original location.
Cheers,
Webmaster
Whoo-hoo, thanks for that Webmaster (whoever you are?!), good move!:D
All great shots there, particularly like Bristol_Robs second shot and Skymonsters shot from Las Vegas.:)
I believe LGW services have been cut to just one daily 757…
Fraid not, Continental no longer operate any services out of LGW, although I did here a rumour going around that they might (and it is just a ‘might’) be considering a daily LGW-EWR flight on a 757-200 since the airport has changed ownership, but I guess we will have to wait.
…heathrow it is for next trip!
Send me a PM if/when you know that you are…;)
Sadly it has to be British Airways, and on two occasions…
Firstly when flying MCO-LGW, got an exit row seat, however cabin attendant ran over my foot with food trolley and had the cheek to say “Well you shouldn’t have had your foot in the way!?”…I got off the plane and two of my toes were black and bruised, and no such thing as an apology!
Secondly when flying SEA-LHR, upgraded to World Traveller Plus, and besides the slightly larger seat, I noticed no difference between the service I experienced when travelling in World Traveller.
Personally, I don’t have a problem with any of the moderators themselves and I think they do a good job of policing and enforcing the Code of Conduct (do you get paid to do it, just wondering?).
As for the forum itself I have noticed a rather large increase in the number of threads that seem to dwindle into a “he/she said this and that” or someone else twists the words of others or takes someone’s opinion out of context.
I also agree that as there are some areas that I used to visit before, notably the commercial airliner photo section, and now I hardly ever look at it since it was moved into the more generic ‘Photographic’ section.
Who are we [the British people] to complain at state of the Chinese judicial system and express our outrage…I’m sure the Chinese have their opinions on our judicial system, but we do not see/hear them complaining about it, do we?
At the end of the day, he was caught, arrested, put on trial, found guilty and given the necessary punishment that the Chinese judicial system deems suitable to deal with the crime that was committed…can’t say fairer than that really?
As for the claim of mental illness, whilst I believe that this a factor that maybe should be considered in some cases, what would this do for all future criminal cases in any country…anyone accused of a crime could claim a mental illness of some kind, and in my opinion the cost and time of seeking whether a person is mentally sane or not would be too great and simply delay the inevitable.

Why does the UK security need to be any more restrictive than it already is? This extremist was travelling from Lagos via Amsterdam not the UK. He was also on a watch list so why was he not picked up at that point. The ESTA form that all US bound travellers must complete and get an approval to travel is another aspect of US securty that failed.
“Why does the UK security need to be any more restrictive than it already is?”…well surely that is simple isn’t it, the most obvious answer is so that it at least reduces the possibility of something like this from happening over here, won’t it?
Also, won’t it help make those people that are travelling over to the USA only a few days after such an event feel that bit safer.
I must say I was quite surprised by how well these new security measures have been received by passengers. Yes, they are rightly annoyed that boarding/departure of their flights are delayed due to every single passenger having to go through a full body and hand baggage search, but the number of people that have actually said to me that they welcomed these increased measures was fairly substantial!
The only thing I dislike is the fact that some people still feel it’s the airlines fault (even if it isn’t the airline that was involved in the incident!)…but hey, some people will always have to find fault with something and complain because thats the culture that we have created for ourselves nowadays.

Thanks for that 27vet, certainly made me laugh!:D
As for the topic at hand, I am personally against the EU and think we should withdraw, however, that said, who here genuinely thinks that this country would be better run/managed if we were not in the EU; surely being part of the EU allows us the opportunity to pass the blame of our problems onto someone else!?:D:diablo:

I have just come home from work, and all I can say is that due to this one persons actions, every other person travelling is now subject to a full body and hand baggage search prior to boarding a US bound flight; we even had to board passengers 2 rows at a time as a precaution (not good when you are dealing with an aircraft which has 45 rows!).
Although check-in procedures have not yet been affected as such (you’re now only allowed one piece of hand baggage!), I would urge all people that are due to travel to the USA in the next few days to allow extra time to take into account these enhanced security measures, and to also to take a seat when at the departure gate and do not queue up until your seat-row number has been called forward.
