Is direct with British Airways (8.25am arrival) or Air Mauritius not an option? Failing that, what about indirect with Air France (6.55am arrival)?
Well my grandparents dont like travelling with BA (don’t ask why!) so that is definatley not an option, and I suppose Virgin want to keep the revenue from the airfare, so they have done the next best thing by putting them via JNB and then another airline (which carrier is yet to be confirmed!) from JNB to MRU.
I have advised them to ask to see if VS might be able to accomodate them via NBO, DEL, DXB or BOM; or if they no option but to travel via JNB, if there is any chance of an upgrade to Upper Class, seeing as they are already booked to travel in Premium Economy.
As a member of bmi’s Diamond Club, I get e-mails with news and updates on a regular basis about the changes to schedules and routes that the airline is operating, this is what my latest e-mail that I recieved just today had to say:
We’re making changes to our summer 2009 flying:
Increasing our Heathrow-Beirut and Amman services to ten per week from 22 May 2009
Reducing our Heathrow-Addis Ababa service to three per week, now being served over Amman, instead of Damascus from 29 March 2009
Decreasing the frequency of our Heathrow-Amsterdam service to four per day and Heathrow-Dublin to six per day from 29 March 2009
Operating our Heathrow-Aberdeen service on all Embraer aircraft from 29 March 2009 and Heathrow-Brussels on all Embraer aircraft from 18 April 2009
Closing our Heathrow-Leeds Bradford and Durham Tees Valley services on 28 March 2009/
The decision to withdraw services between London and the North of England was a tough one, as we’ve operated these routes since 1969. However a decline in demand, higher-than-inflation cost increases at Heathrow and higher Government Air Passenger Duty (APD) charges have made operating these routes unsustainable.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Of course this is subject to change for a few months ahead but I can’t imagine it being much different to the current schedule.
Thanks FP, but I had a call this afternoon from my grandparents to say that Virgin Holidays have written to them to say VS are not operating the LHR-MRU flights this summer and that they have been re-booked via JNB instead, which is not great because there are only two flights JNB-MRU; the first one which is only one hour after they arrive into JNB or in the one afternoon, but then they dont arrive into MRU until 7pm and will therefore miss a whole day of their holiday.
Can you think of any other options as to how they might be able to there any earlier/quicker; I’ve had a look at DXB, but there’s only one flight a day between there and MRU…:(
Nice to meet you to meet you…!:diablo::p
Welcome to the forums, hope you have an enjoyable time.
Interesting signature, I actually chuckled at it.;)

Yes, I am a member.
At first it was just an informal group set up by a fellow forum member (sorry, can’t remember whoever you are!:o) until recently when I think the top brass or moderators may have taken the decision to have taken it over in order to give Airliner World a bit more publicity.
I heard its the wildest runway in the whole of UK…
I think you meant to say widest, James…didn’t you?:D:dev2:
No harm in trying, but I wouldnt be at all surprised if get moved on by the police, especially if you are up against the perimter fence!
As more infomation comes to light, it looks like the cause of this tragedy could be down to a combination of factors ranging from the weather and possible human error?
According to the BBC: “Fatal US plane ‘was on autopilot'”
“Pilots are recommended to fly manually in icy weather, he said.” (Steve Chealander, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board; NTSB.)

Is this true?
I suppose Deano would be the best one to answer this question, seeing as he flies on this particular type of a/c, or can anyone else shed any light on this matter?
Is it just a coincidence that FR’s brand new machines seem to spend a few weeks doing short trips (MAN, LBA, BRS etc) before moving on to other work?
Its probably just to ease them in before they begin their really hectic lives.:D
Nice shots as per usual Lance.:)
Any ideas if the Kenyan 737 would have had to of made another stop en-route to Kenya (if so, where?), I wouldnt have thought it would have been able to of flown all the way with just one stop, even if it was empty?
Yes indeed, and I think most of us in the UK wondered what the Flybe lads were speculating as the news broke ?
Not just ‘Flybe’ Ren Frew, I wouldnt be at all surprised to know if all opearators that use this particular aircraft type didnt pay attention to this tradegy as it could have an impact on them.
Similarily, with reference to the SAS Dash8 Q400 incidents involving the undercarriage, this was deemed to be a problem (thankfully, didnt turn out as bad as this current event!), but I am sure that other carriers, BE included, took a look at their fleet of aircraft to ensure that the same thing wouldnt happen their aircraft.
Great selection of pics there Wannabe Pilot.
I am suddenley filled with jealousy that you got to fly in a private jet?!;):p
Has there been any info released about possible cause of the accident, weather at the time of the crash was light snow and fog so that could be one theory.
Very sad news indeed, especially when you learn that one of the passengers that was onboard travelled on a flight from the airport that I work at earlier that same day, they then connected onto this flight at EWR! My condolances and thoughts are with all the relatives and friends that had someone on that flight.:(
Great shots, thanks for the blast from the past!:)
😮 BA used to operate CRJ’s…I never knew that!
How many did they have and where did they fly them to/from?
