wow, what a great site. Thanks for that.
Never knew there was a B-29 fire-bomber ! 😮
Does anyone fancy another Forum project? I’d be interested…
Yes, but at the moment you only have 20 minutes left to get 10 or 20+ people to chirp up….. tall order, but……… 😎
Or even more radical than that and chop below the flight deck floor….?
Sorry Jon, did i crop the picture wrong ?
That was my best guess at where the pilots floor would be, as its many, many years since i was last inside a Vulcan 🙁
Think negotiations for the flight deck only would have to be started! 😉
I have asked if it could be further cut to the buyers requirements, but no reply.
But something like this portion you mean…..?
Regarding the cost, I think Bruce is absolutely right. Given what’s left in the cockpit, albeit a bit ‘tatty’, and the rarity of the type it’s probably not such a bad asking price after all. Heck, there’s probably getting on for 400-500 quids worth of seats in there for starters.
Hummm, exactly what i was thinking Mark.
If it really was ’empty’ as some have said, the cost of sourcing the seats for example, would be additional to the £2K.
And given the size & condition of this example, maybe a flight-deck only display could be salvaged ? But it’ll be a brave man who spends that amount only to throw away 70%+ of the metal 😮
It isn’t worth 2K. 200 perhaps, if you want to spend years fixing it up, and it will be years!
Very true. Something is only worth what the buyer is prepared to pay. But what price preservation ? Is a (very) manky Shackleton nose overpriced at £1000 ? Hell… yes (IMHO).But this forum has proved its worth saving.
I’m surprised at how many items are still in the Vulcan, and £2K is very competitive compared to most Canberra’s and the odd JayPee when offered for sale, and cheaper than the last nose offered for £7K (Paul’s on eBay).
I’m just amazed at the level of debate and finger pointing about XL391’s scapping, but seemingly no one is still interested in lifting said finger to help ? 😡
whats the one pic off it looks like the thimble but close up? part of an engine or something?
Pete,
Isn’t that the TFR thimble from the nose (photo 1 shows a hole where it should be)
Wasn’t he going to shred it if there were no takers?
What… the TFR or the cockpit itself ? 😮
Surely ~somebody~ has £2K lying around ?
Are there seriously no Vulcan enthusiasts interested in it ? I find that hard to believe……..
.
I’m sure Bruce and Co’ would give it a home ? 😀
Thats all I know……have been over it a few times now. Will try and take a camera next time. Markings are still quite visible on the wings – its just not the sort of thing that you expect to find in Darkest Devon! 🙂
Martin
Martin,
I ~am~ in darkest Devon also !
And only 12 miles from Dulverton where filming took place. Can you divulge and/or PM more precise details please ?
😀
The 109 replica is still there in the field in which it was filmed. Still virtually intact with the elevators and rudder lying next to it. I didnt know anything about it until last Summer when was taken by Auster to go and have a look at the ‘German fighter’.
Surprised that it is still there as I believe quite a few people call Exeter up reporting a crashed aeroplane in a field.
Martin
Really…….? 😮
Do tell more…. !!
Looks nice.
I’ve not heard of that type before. Anybody know where & how it would have been used in service ?
I thought there was something fishy about this auction and now this clarifys it. Good to see someone has e-mailed e-bay, maybe as many of us could e-mail them and get this sorted.
Why bother ?
As one wag put it…. eBay themselves are like the Lord Lucan of the internet.
You’ll only get an automated response :dev2:
WK576 Chippax, should be in the loving care of 1206 Sqdn ATC in Lichfield, Staffs’.
Trip to Middle Wallop perhaps…?
.
Don’t forget the famous ‘BUFF without its fin’ incident…….. 😮
