Shame you cant cast your moderators eye over the F-16 thread in this ~historic~ forum :dev2: 😡

Hey, the Harrier is still in frontline service and it gets talked about all the time on this forum, as do many other jet types still in service

You may wish to check your facts before making such statements.

The Harriers discussed in the ~Historic~ forum are all the 1st generation type that finally flew (RAF) in 1995 and the last (Royal Navy) of the breed, including some Falklands veterans are just being disposed of now.

The modern Harrier II (nee AV-8B/GR.5/7) is actually discussed in great depth over on the ~Modern~ forum, alongside the F-16’s for example 😡

Here’s some of my pictures. I think I’ve captured most of the cockpits but I haven’t managed to identify all of them

A very pleasant day and my first visit to Newark as well. Well done all.

For those that are interested, I’ve got a gallery of pics from CockpitFest 2005.

You can find them here – http://www.aviationphotoarchive.com/photos/newark/index.htm

(The unplanned “display” by the Spitfire was rather nice too 😀 )

    Steve,

Did you get any more pics of the cockpits ?

As i can only see 6 in total on your link.

As this was plugged as ~the~ great gathering of Hunter cockpits, did you or anybody else get a full list and/or photo essay of participants ?

…..Only downside i could see was no corrolation with the museum (and XA903) there. Although the museum guys had their own stall, even they admitted that you had to drive all the way around to get to it, and they shut at 4pm !!

With XM655 not available for inspection until 3pm, and no chance of re-admittance if you left between the taxi times, the prospect of viewing two Vulcans was an oppurtunity missed.

Care to comment Paul ? 😉

    That ain’t smoke – its pollen 🙁

Ah yes, i’d forgotten about the ~other~ cloud kicked up that day.

Lots of lovely cut grass when ‘655 swung round.

Ever tried explaining to a 5 year old girl, why its snowing grass !! :diablo:

Well, its not everyday you see a Vulcan holding for ATC clearance to join a live runway, so on that basis alone, many thanks to all at Wellesbourne for their efforts yesterday.

Only downside i could see was no corrolation with the museum (and XA903) there.

Will J’.. shame your Rapide broke, what was the problem ? Although the twin-pin replacement was warmly welcomed !!

And whoever got sand blasted by the Lynx arrival, i do feel for you. I thought i had cause to grumble when the twin pin spun around in front of me, but that Lynx grit cloud was something else :diablo:

Anyhow, as Vulcans say… live long and prosper XM655

    Rob,

Any other time…yes, but on this occasion I’m off to see XM655 blat down the runway at Wellesbourne, and this (and others) event clashes.

Maybe the bars are to keep certain primates out ??? 😀
