G-VTOL
Is that the one that was used to test the ‘skyhook’ crane system
Yes indeed. I think it was officially on loan (still is perhaps ?) in case they decide to carry on with the project (eek!)
2-seaters
The Flypast article only deals with single seaters i’m afraid, although Ian Sheffield has a anon’ 2-seater (pictured on page 20 current issue) that i’m helping him with.
This may or may not be from XW272 ? As it originated from Dunsfolds dump where ‘272’s cockpit has been noted.
Just down the road at Leuchars is XW265 privately owned by Stewart Milne who runs the ATC there.
While the Jet Age Museum at Staverton has XW264, and XW268 is in a scrapyard in Sussex (or was ?)
Aside from that, theres a few scattered here and there at bases still such as Yeovilton and Wittering.
Anybody care to continue the survivors list ?
Dave B’ what say yee ?
FAO: Paul Cushion
Oh sorry if I misinformed people on the board! I did’nt realise that the Harrier had gone. What a shame. I only ever went into the Trocadero in the first place so that I could look at the Harrier.
Bloody awful place.
Shame she could’nt have been restored.
Paul
Paul,
Could you get in touch regarding the Harrier you mentioned at the Trocadero Center (as was) ?
Cheers…..
Airframes recently moved ?
Any updates ?
I can only speak from experience, MH
Yes indeed Melvyn, i too can only speak from experience, and that was my experience.
JDK asked for opinions both “Good and Bad” of Friends groups. It would seem the majority have received positive comments.
I’m not saying the DH Moth club are a “bad” group, merely commenting in my experience with them.
Quote “I dont own a Moth” nuff said !!
I couldn’t disagree more. I don’t own a Moth, but I just love reading Stuart McKay’s ramblings in The Moth. He is one of the friendliest, loveliest people I know. Additionally, the Woburn Moth Rally is set in stone in my diary. All the Moth owners I know (and there are a few) are some of my favourite people and I wouldn’t particularly consider myself part of a close-knit community..
I dont recall saying Stuart ~isn’t~ a lovely guy… he is, and a gong from queenie to prove it, and the Moth rally is ~the~ place to be, especially as, if your a Chipmunk devotee, Ralphs Chippie Club gives you admission as well (eg: You dont have to be a DH Moth member to get airside)
No, what i said was… and you must have read it, because you near enough said it yourself… is that it’s a very closed knit community dedicated to its current Moth owning membership.
Anybody new seeking help, technical advice, parts etc… 😡 well, nuff said really.
DH Clubs
I’m a member of FOD and I find it good value, free admission all year except airshows – and I’m only just up the road! I’m also just about to join the DHC Chipmunk Club.
Ralphs Chipmunk Club… highly recommended, mag’ twice a year plus a very friendly pitch at the Woburn rally where you can sit, eat, drink & be merry & browse through photos, AP’s etc…. 😀
DH Moth Club… not so friendly, very close knit community and reluctant to help even if you ~actually had~ a Tiger Moth.
Suffice to say, i left & sold Tiggie shortly after !!
Dave,
Yes i have that magazine, but how about expediting those copies of Classic Wings 2 and 3 in return ?
As its been quite a while since you said you would do them !
Thinx.. “Are these overalls fireproof ?”
Re: Torbay
The museum closed down in the late eighties & the contents auctioned off. The site is now a luxury flat complex (or similar).
Andy H’ from Newton Abbott (who owns Sea Vixen cockpit XN650) and is ‘HMS Vulture’ on this forum, should be able to answer most questions as he’s a member of the Devon A/C Recovery Team, whose exhibits were on show at Torbay (but now in storage).
The Fa330 is now with the FAAM (in the Cobham hall), the Vampire XE995 was recently owned (and now scrapped) by… Mr Richard Hukins of Kent, and the SeaHawk cockpit (not mentioned in the list above) was acquired by myself and turned out to be WF145 (3rd pre-production a/c), but having passed through the Welshpool cockpit collection, is now cherished by Stuart Gowans. The Sycamore is (continuing its role as a plaything) at Caernarfon, along with the Dove, Dragonfly and Varsity cockpit.
Hey….Mark G…. if your visiting the sunny South West, why not pop in to visit us mortals down here ? I’m sure we could organise a tour of our cockpits, garage contents & other assorted items of interest ? 😉
There is also a Hampden fuselage at East Kirby Museum.
mmitch.
Anybody with an update on Brians project (piccies ?) ?
Is it possible to view it at East Kirkby or is it stored away ? 😉
I have photos of every aircraft on site at that time if any of them are of use to you.
Regards Plazz
Plazz,
Thanks. Which a/c is that second photo ? Any ideas ?
Could you mail them to me please ?
Oh yes indeed… especially the one coded ‘3E’.
Many thanks !
Yes, but has anyone ask NASA if it could be recovered.
But did NASA ever go to the moon ?
I thought it was all filmed in the desert & anybody who blabbed thereafter was bumped off when passing any grassy knoll (LoL) 😀
We are also keep to make contact with other similar cockpit rebuilders such as Bernie Salter and Jeremy Hall and contact details would be greatly appreciated or details of any other sources of such parts and assistance.
please contact me via Private Message or my direct email below,
Mark,
PM sent re’ contact details.
Best of luck with the project !!
