It looks very like my Swift canopy (wellnot my actual one as that is on 113)
You sure Tony ?
XF113 seems to have a raised step half way along, unless its merely the framing only and the perspex itself is a continous edge ?
Thats great chaps thanks for your help – it may be heading off to help a project anon!
Cheers
TT
C’mon then Ben, own up…. what project is it helping then ? I bet you know all along and we’ve gotta guess the recipient aircraft :diablo:
Post war the 1950,s early jets have round frames and the nearest that looks about right are the P.1040/Sea Hawk or Attacker.
Nope defo’ not Seahawk or Attacker and Sea Fury looks squared off ala Vampire/Venom as well
Must be either a UH-12 or Scout!
Dave, its an Enstrom !
Ben,
Found the pic’.
Not Wyvern but this beast located at Robertsbridge certainly is (note bicycle for scale)……….
Ben,
Nope not Wyvern, but to confirm i’ll dig out a photo of one later.
Cheers………
I wasnt aware of that Dave T. Ive only been on the forum for a month or so…
Likewise i wasn’t aware of that. If you want to know more, just search for ‘WL756’ and/or ‘Blackpool Vulcan’
Welcome to the forum 😉
David, would it not be wise to mention it? maybe the yard would get calls re the aircraft but maybe just maybe one call would be from somebody that is genuine about purchasing the aircraft to restore it. And that one genuine caller has then saved an airframe or maybe just the cockpit , which lets be honest is what we are all wanting to happen isnt it?
I understand what your saying dont get me wrong, but Im seeing both sides of the argument and dare I say playing devils advocate but if we do make people aware of an aircraft, maybe mentioning it might stop that something being lost for ever.
On the contrary, do you recall this very forums own efforts to save the Shackleton in Cornwall earlier this year ?
The scrappie in question was extremely fed up with so called “anoraks” ringing up & turning up. So much so, he started charging £100+ per person per viewing.
This ‘history’ of tyre kickers, made it very difficult in the end to convince him we were at last the ‘geniune’ buyers he sought, and to a certain extent also put the asking price up as he paired one interested party off against another.
This is why we pooled resources (not just £) so that everyone backed off, and just one delegation went in to barter & conclude the deal.
To the scrapman its just a lump of metal worth some money. His goal in life is to get more money, as much as possible by hook or by crook, so the softly softly approach needs to be taken.
Another recent example is the Blackpool Vulcan nose. It passed from one neandorthol to another and lasted as long as it did because they assumed that we’d save it no matter what, and the asking price just escalated far beyond what it was worth.
Cheers………
I see that someone called Bruce is bidding on it……
Yes very strange…. hasn’t he got enough ? :diablo:
Humm still no Komet…. did find this though:-
On the subject of seats, there is another one on Ebay,German, metal frame been reupholstered, has label added to frame which mentions ‘Lubek’ (i think) and ‘Komet?’ might be interesting but to me doesnt look like the type of seat from an early jet fighter.
Searching “Komet” on eBay.De brought back 200+ items. Whats the item number ?
Cracking photo’s as ever. Love that line up shot 😀
But who’s this good looking chap ? :diablo:
Shoreham is a venue where information is exchanged, as well as swaps completed, deals brokered, help given, mystery parts identified, everyone there is a mine of information all there at once, a lot goes on there more than simple selling goods, you dont get that on the net, thats what will be sadly missed by lots of people, but as we know that doesnt earn money to pay the overheads though !
Indeed, thats why i thoroughly enjoyed the IPMS Telford last November. I took £100 just in case, and i really had trouble blowing it 😮 , instead the day was more about the bartering, tit bits of info’ etc, etc… although as you (indirectly) say, sentimentality doesn’t meet the overheads for any event.
Likewise thats why i still persevere with Popham, even though its no longer a ‘Flypast’ event and the marquee (once full of Hurricane canopys, T-6 props, £1 per instrument boxes etc) is now (almost) full of local charity stalls.
I guess it’s like ya’ local model shop…. use it or lose it ! And to that end i would support a move to Brooklands or similar (Gatwick collection ?).
Cheers…….. 😉
Speaking as a ‘customer’ i agree also with everybodys valid points.
The net has been a godsend in acquiring ‘unobtainium’ and as such i have never visited Shoreham, due in part to the distance to acquire a vital part that probably won’t be there anyway, and sooner or later it’ll coming floating down the River Ebay anyway (well mostly).
That said i do/did enjoy Popham (as was) if only to meet old faces, but i concur that a move to Brooklands would be a positive step and would certainly attend.
In a similar vain, i always attended the IPMS nats at Donington, and then the first at Telford, thereafter along came eBay and bam !! Although last year i went back to Telford and although browsing whilst thinking “i can get that cheaper ~and~ posted to me”, i still thoroughly enjoyed the company of like minded souls.
Cheers…….. 😀
