    Great Bird

There is a great example : MiG-25R KP355 displayed at Delhi’s Indian Air Force Museum at Palam – the last MIG 25 in IAF flew in March 2006 after two decades of spotless service

The book is out but our initial stocks sold almost as soon as they came in! We are now awaiting delivery of further stocks from Pakistan. These are expected in the next 10-12 days.

Have the new stocks come in as yet ?

It appear to me that Russian aviation Engines in general are very hard to get some common history that are not biased from authors point of veiw..
    Special western authors:confused:

Do anyone know of others good Aviation books on this matter?

    Thanks

One unbiased and fairly unique book is By Sergei Burdin

Tupolev Tu-22 Blinder: Supersonic Bomber, Attack, Maritime Patrol and Electronic Countermeasures Aircraft (Hardcover)
by Sergey Burdin (Author) – UK 2005

covers first hand reports by iraqi and libyan crews who flew the bomber and the trials and tribulations of this quirky arircraft and its engines

AI was a real Tour-de-force in the 90’s – with some brilliant aircraft monographs , colour profiles , Fundamentals of fighter and airliner design (now in a book-form), A-Z of aircraft etc

It was always a wonder how Key Mags could publish simultaneously AFm,AI , FLY PAST , Air Enthusiast , Airliner World , Today’s Pilot , Airport , Specials et al and still keep the quality and interest alive

Sadly in recent times a few have demised like Air Enth etc but AFM and AI are going strong

LCA Marine BVR Derby fitment is to engage targets in the 40 Km + mode and is a poor reflection on the progress on the indigenous Astra.

Although i am not sure how a BVR can be used in an anti-ship mode -neither the LCA guy had an answer.

On another note SPYDER (Surface-to-air Python and Derby) will replace the antiquated OSA-AKM [SA-8 Gecko] SAM’s in the IAF around 4-5 battalions – i got an interesting brochure which also seeks at modernising the OSA itself .

There was also a hint of Python 5 being considered for the Tejas – however on the mock-up displays and pictures there was no evidence and the Rafael guy shrugged and mentioned its a certainty on the Mirage 2000 H upgrade program .

Did they display the Astra this year? Or the Derby?

(real scale) models of both Derby and python were displayed with extensive videos

The Observers series were a big hit in the pre-internet era 60/70/80 and i remember William Green very diligent in his updation and excelent profiles from pilot press

i still preserve many of the old salamander Guides and recent bricks and the assorted thirty odd bigger titles – nothing equivalent in the last twenty years nor sadly ever will

demise of the COLD WAR and proliferation of the net have proved to be a death nell for many of the publishing houses specialising on aerospace/military subjects – orbis/hamlyn/salamander/octopus/Temple Press/Aerospace/Airlife

In recent times I can think of only 2 or 3 equivalent ones :

Collins Janes – Combat aircraft pocket guide

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/0004708466/sr=1-23/qid=1233773912/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=266239&s=books&qid=1233773912&sr=1-23

gerald frawley’s biennial publication (more mag sized)

The International Directory of Military Aircraft from australia – reissued by airlife

what with the shrinking mil av market and new types once in 15-20 years most of the current guides will survive for another 10 years

not sure why there is so much heartburn – the toll free number is accessible easily and Jill from Airtime is quite informative and apologetic – simple free phone call t is all it takes

if its cross posted -at least have the courtesy to acknowledge the other forum by name – also save such sensationalism for April 1 – if u must – the NY timeslink clearly shows the date to be 1987 :dev2:
